If you're interested in reading about one man's personal crusade against the TV Licencing people, look here
On Capita (who's tentacles now extend into virtually every aspect of public 'service' as a result of outsourcing) Private Eye magazine have been running exposés on them for years, but they still seem to be the government's favourite for everything. I can't talk about this further as it makes me so angry I'll need to go and lie down! :mad:Midas.0 -
I bought a freeview box last year. When ordering it online, there was a note stating that my details would be passed on to the TV licencing people .... "fine, I have a licence anyway, so, I won't hear from them" How wrong was I:rolleyes: I got 6 ... yes 6 letters demanding that I purchased a TV licence ... which really peeved me off as I have one already!!
I called them up after the 6th letter arrived and demanded an apology for all the grief and junk mail! Also, told them how stupid there system was:D Got a grovling letter within a few days too:DI can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -
A few years back they had out a series of ads saying something like '3 in Blenkinsop Parade, Chigley. 5 in Foppish Way, W1. We know exactly which addresses don't have a TV Licence' and the first one I saw, one of the listed addresses was the small estate my sister lives on, with I think 2 as the number - and she hasn't had a telly for years, so that made me laugh, cos they were at least 50% wasting their time listing it!DFW stats:

humph wrote:According to the TV Licensing webpage this only applies if your PC / Laptop has a dedicated broadcast card that basically turns you compuer into a TV via an arial socket and its software / hardware. Its a good point though and some people may be unaware that they require a license.
For me not having a TV but watching it on my computer would seem a bit strange. My own perspective on not having a TV has very little to do with the not wanting to pay the TV license and more to do with conserving the few brain cells I have left.
1) If your PC has a TV card you only need a licence if it is used to receive TV signals. You do not need a licence just because it has a TV card.
2) If you watch TV on your PC via the internet, you need a TV licence if the TV station broadcasts in the UK (TV card or not). If you watch TV over the internet without a TV licence, make sure it is a foreign channel!!

It's good to see the BBC aren't wasting our money - like paying criminals who make a living out of breaking into peoples houses £4000 just to appear in a documentary - oh that's right they just did.I just can't be happy today0

I got a letter today saying someone will be visiting me. Thats nice. I cant wait, as I have a license so they are welcome to come and see it, but they can wait outside for an hour til I find it

Years ago I bought a nice big tv to replace the little 14 inch portable we had been viewing on. It was from one of the electrical retail stores, can't remember which one, but they did say to me that they have to pass on my name and address to TV Licensing. Not a problem as we already had a tv so already had a license....
That's what I thought! The license was in my boyfriends name and of course the form that went off was in my name. I had a flurry of letters all accusing me of not having a license and informing me of the fines I would face for not having a license. I ignored the first few thinking they would get their act together and realise that the license for the address covered the new tv too. Not so! They then resorted to threatening to take me to court over the non purchase of a tv license so I rang them and explained. They said oh yes they could see my address had a license but I had to send a photocopy of it to stop all the hassle. Just to shut them up I copied our license and sent it off and that seemed to satisfy them.
How ridiculous was that! Was quite stressful at the time though with strongly worded letters dropping through the letterbox every few days, made me dread the post arriving.Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
i found this on the tv licensing website. Why the hell do blind people have to pay tv licence?
In some circumstances, you may qualify for a concessionary licence. For example, if you are over 74, you can apply for a Short Term Licence, which will cover you until the month you turn 75, at this point you become entitled to a free Over 75 Licence. If you are blind, you can apply for a Blind Concessionary Licence at 50% of the full licence fee. And if you live in residential care, you may...Life should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0 -
