No I will not go and get a job-We'd lose more than we'd gain.

That quote there says an awful lot. I dont mean you swizzled-nor am having a dig at you, but there are an awful lot of people with this mentality. The benefits people can get do sometimes outweigh what you get for slogging your a*rse off in a job for ten hours a day like I do. I know what you are saying about affordable childcare, there is practically none. If you really want there are bits and bobs you can do while your kids are little to up your income a bit, such as Avon. I used to do Avon round the school gates and play groups when mine were small, and used to make a killing from it.
I know someone who has the same amount of children as me, and I work fulltime, and get by, im not poor by any means, but she knows how to play the system, gets everything, and i mean everything for free, including holidays from the social services. It does make you bitter sometimes when i think of the stress I go through each day to keep a house, work at a fulltime stressful job etc. This woman I know gets more income in to her house than me, and treats something like going to a supermarket as a 'day out' where to most of us working folk its just another hassle to fit in to an already busy life. I can understand why you would feel like this, but swizzled you must try not to, cos you have the dignity of not having to claim.

Thank you !! Finally someone who understands where I'm coming from.

After school care for my 2 would cost at least £140 a week(then theres nothing for school hols-have no family we could ask either). So I'd need a job paying £1000 after tax to be where I am now. Believe me its not easy getting a well paid job when there are none about.

I get some many catalogues for betterware etc through my door-so no market for any of those jobs.

So you get an additional £5954 (approx) a year in top up benefits etc, bringing your income up to about £20858pa?

Is the £458 / four weeks the amount before or after the deductions because you were overpaid?

It's nearer £8k by the time you include the child benefit.

I'm not entitled to healthy start vouchers(both over 4) nor can I get free school dinners!!
Since both your children are over four, you wouldn't be entitled to Healthy Start vouchers anyway!

You get wtc instead - which pays for these things.
I'm moaning that my dh works and we get very little in the way that if he didn't work we'd get everything

You wouldn't be that much better off.

But you get over 5 grand pa in tax credits - if your council tax was that high it would be over £400 per month, which was what was said!

It's a bit much for someone who doesn't work and claims benefits for it to complain about other people who do the same!

Obviously I can't speak for everyone else, but I work and I always have done. I'm proud to support myself and finance my choices. I firmly believe that benefits are for those in need, not those who merely want or, worse still, expect...
