Low income yet not entitled to anything

My DH works 40 hrs a week.Earns £14904 a yr(before tax).We have 2 children. I've applied for housing benefit and council tax benefit yet we've been turned down.
Is there anything we can claim?
The free laptop is a no because although we are under the limit ,we get wtc:mad:

Tax credits are used as income for HB/LHA and CTB.

If you're claiming CTC and WTC then you are claiming everything you are entitled to. Perhaps you could think of working if you are struggling for money and need extra income.

CB, CTC & WTC - all of which you are getting anyway.

HB-wise, your rent is obviously deemed affordable on your income.

We will shortly be in the same boat - £15K gross salary, losing HB & CTB but gaining WTC. I reckon we won't be any better or worse off financially, and we'll gain psychologically on two counts - firstly, the knowledge that we are earning that money, and secondly I won't have to face the ritual humiliation of signing on and justifying my jobhunting every two weeks.

  • I'm not saying we are struggling.
I mean all these things like free laptop, free school meal, healthy start vouchers we are under the 16k(or whatever it is) but wtc stops us getting it.

So, would you rather not have the WTC?

By the time you add in wtc and everything else, you'll be getting more than 16k.

There is nothing that you can do about this.

I would rather not have wtc if it meant I could claim everything else.
We get less wft than the council tax bill for the year.

    You have no choice.

According to entitledto.co.uk, you'd get around £157 per week on the salary you quoted with 2 children. (ctc, wtc & chb)
