vodafone problems (help!)

Hi there

I got my phone stolen from me the other night, reported the incident and got a crime ref number, I then explained to vodafone that I needed the phone blocked and a replacement handset issued.

They explained that because I did not have insurance I was not eligable for a new phone, and that I would still have to pay for the monthly figure even though I dont have a phone now.

Are they allowed to do this? Is there any way I can either a. end the contract early without paying a ridiculous figure or b. get a new phone? I would happily stay with them! Pay the monthly figure, I just need a new phone!

At present I have spoke to somebody who is speaking to their manager about the situation and coming back to me, but in the meantime I need some advice

Thanks Guys!

Just get a sim-free handset (either second hand on ebay or new, either locked to vodafone or unlocked) and put your vodafone contract sim in it.
  • thanks for the reply, that isnt actually what i require however, my tariff is £60.00 a month and i dont really want to pay such a high figure every month if I dont have the actual phone...(the iphone 4)

This is your problem and not Vodafone problems.

If you have had your phone stolen, you have to carry on paying Vodafone, it was hardly their fault you have had your phone stolen.

If you take a read of the Vodafone terms and conditions, which you would have agreed to, this is explained :

Vodafone will replace the SIM card, but as you have no insurance, you will have to purchase a new phone at your own expense.

Not what you want to hear but Vodafone have no responsibility for your lost handset. Your contract is for the airtime not the handset and you will have to continue to pay for it. Without insurance you have no option other than to obtain another phone at your own expense and continue using your contract commitment.

Sorry to be harsh, but Vodafone have supplied the phone and service.

You have had your phone stolen but will have to carry on paying the agreed amount for the duration of the commitment.

The contract is legally binding and you have no choice.

So let me get this straight.

Vodafone gave you a "free" phone valued at £580 in exchange for you agreeing to a £60.00 a month contract (presumably over a period of 24 months). You neglected to insure said phone, had it stolen from you and you now want Vodafone to agree to either a. give you another £580 phone free or b. not receive any payments for a service they are providing you?
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)
  • oh dear. yes it is unfortunate but once you get the phone from vodaphone it is very much your responsibility

sorry to add to the bearer of bad news, the same thing happened to me a few yrs ago, as I had no insurance, the handset wasn;t covered, but they did send a new sim card.

I know its a pain in the rear, esp with the style of phone, but ur stuck with the contract till end, the only way to get out would be to buy yourself out of the remaining months.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I'm afraid the other posters are right, it's not Vodaphone's responsibility to look after your phone.

Have you got house contents insurance? If so, and you ticked the right boxes on the application, then you may be covered by that.
