My toddler touches people!

I dont find it weird! babies and toddlers tend to explore the world through their senses - touch, smell and taste being top priorities at this age! I have many times found a toddler touching my hair (perhaps its the silvery bits that attract them) or if I am wearing shiny fabric or furry fabric. you do need to teach the toddler its not appropriate to touch strangers though. but be gentle about it, I would just take the toddlers hand away and say, 'No, we ask before we touch'. and be persistent about it.
It can be on the receiving end!0 -
My DD is 3, she doesn't touch strangers but she does need touch to relax, she strokes hands or elbows.
If my DD did this I would say the same as PigPen that it tickles.
I do have to tell my DD on occasion to stop as she is bending my fingers back and pinching the skin or trying to get my arm in an impossible angle.Proud to be dealing with my debts

I often used to get toddlers touching my hair on the bus (when it was bright pink/red dreads with a few beads and wraps), its not that weird on the receiving end, honest.0

My son has always had a thing for labels, but thankfully just his own! When he was little, I could only buy M&S vests because they have to long labels inside which he liked to rub between his fingers. He still rubs labels and sucks his fingers now and he is 11 :eek:
Over the years I have worked with kids from age 4 up to 9 and it never ceases to amaze me how many of them are drawn to touching your legs and feet! Often they do it without thinking when they are sat on the carpet next to you. I have learnt to wear trousers rather than tights, because tights don't last two minutes with littlelies!Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
My youngest daughters first steps were at a party my eldest was at as she wanted to touch the hair of another Mum at the party. She walked about 6 steps, put her arms up, sat on her lap fiddling with her braided hair.
Although my eldest does not touch people she does ask a lot of direct questions about why people are how they are. She has asked about tattoos, piercings, birth marks etc. She usually asks me, but within hearing of the peoson. I tend to assess the situation & if appropriate tell her to ask the person direct. With the birth mark I told her it was something some people are born with & she has a couple of small ones, the lady actually started talking to her directly & told her a bit about it, she then said to me that it was nice to see a parent not being embarrassed by a childs questions.0 -

I think its cute as well.
I imagine if youve never had much to do with kids or had kids you might find it a bit strange. I wouldnt be offended
by a toddler wanting to touch me.0 -
My ds1 likes to touch & stroke my arms & hands and sometimes its weird - he tends to do it when he is tired though. I tend to ignore it. But we have had visitors (like someone coming to collect something from freecycle & the estate agent!) to the house and he just has no inhibitions, he will run up and grab hold of their leg and just swing about them. Its a bit embarassing sometimes as you can see the person is uncomfortable with it but I do stop him from doing it because I don't think it is right. Its a little bit of an invasion of space I think which is not good, he needs to learn some boundaries.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Twin1, (5 at the time): Sits next to man on bus. I vaguely know man, speak to him a bit, know he doesn't mind her and am sat in sight so let her sit there. She puts her hand right in his considerable beard, all the way to his chin, and says:
'you've got a really big moustache'
:rotfl::rotfl:
I just tell her now that you can't touch people you don't know!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
