Ooh I had a bit of a catastrophe yesterday. After opening all of the post on Sunday, I made three black bags, two to throw away, and one to shred. I also made a pile of the magazines which were in the post. When I got back from work yesterday night, I went to put out the two bags of rubbish and slipped on a glossy magazine, flat on my back! On my way down I knocked over the table that had all of the paperwork that I need to sort out, and it went all over the floor.

I was in pain all evening. :rotfl: Took some drugs and went to lie down, so got nothing done yesterday. Not even any internetz browsing.

Today I have just got in and started to cook but I'm going to sort the papers into piles as advised, then make a list of what I owe.

I know I don't have to tell you all of this, but I kind of feel I do? Bet you know what I mean .

I've started my own diary and have been rambling away, think it helps to write it down. Hope the pile sorting's gone/going well, and you didn't hurt yourself too badly :)

Hello  just popping to catch up and offer further pats on the back to everyone. Hope you aren't too sore today Rak xx

Guess what - this opening the post malarky..well
When I got home yesterday evening there was five letters, some little but a couple of A4 ones. I really got `the fear’...you know what I mean.
Dear OH made me a cuppa and while I was chatting away, started opening the bloody things...
Well letter 1 was from a credit card company saying I haven’t paid this month’s outstanding bill. The post crossed - I paid it three days ago. The fear lessens.
The second and third letters were catalogues for the biggest pile of tat I’ve ever seen. Like those Sunday magazine supplements but 10 times worse.....I was highly entertained laughing at some of the stuff.....
Forth letter was the same as letter 1 – a duplication.
But the nicest surprise was the last letter – offering to accept £2k instead of £4k for an outstanding credit card debt. Which I’ve accepted.
So what started out as fear turned into quite a triumph and I’m well pleased.

    Hope that helps
    Love Sassers x

Bacon sandwich and nutella? Like on the same sandwich? Did I read that right?

Welcome to you! I've only just appeared on this forum due to some debt problems that I'm in the middle of sorting out...and I already feel at home, people are so lovely here and they give you advice and support that really helps.

In fact they've inspired me to do budgets and sort myself out and get some meal plans sorted, this weekend I'm doing an inventory of my food cupboards and fridge/freezer to see what I won't need to buy in my online grocery shop this month...being on this forum really does put things in perspective and helps enormously! :D

    Hi all,

Loving this post - thank you so much for sharing your story. I am new on the debt free road and regularly get 'the fear'! I love that there are people on here who understand the nausea that the postman brings. I hate it when he's early and I love it when there is no post.

Lol - 'the fear' - it's mad isn't it when you think about it - the letters won't hurt us as such, but how one little piece of paper can change the day!

Sorry, just a pointless post from me, but just wanted to offer you my support. xx

If it's not the post that's scary, it's the sound of the telephone ringing with yet another call from the bank/DCA/cc company!

It's funny how these little things scare us the most, just knowing that you're not alone is an enormous help. Newbies posting on here often speak of feeling scared, ashamed, angry (usually with themselves), and even suicidal. Taking the first step is so hard yet I don't think I've ever read a post from someone who regretted facing up to their debt problem. As Martin says, no debt problem is insurmountable, after all, it's only money. There are ways of dealing with all of your scary debts, even the larger than expected credit card bills. At the end of the day, they can't have what you haven't got, they will just have to wait for their money. They will huff and puff a bit and you'll be in line for a lot more horrid post. But it's just words on paper, designed to scare and humiliate you, don't take it personally. You're doing great so far, (despite the injury!) so keep going, keep us posted and keep up the good work :T:T
