Well, 4 years to find a reason to complain about us, I guess we're not doing too badly then. ;)

jmle101 - we do offer an insured delivery option but according to our records you chose the standard delivery option. We would've sent your order using Special Delivery if you had chosen insured. Royal Mail tends to be the best option for delivery in the UK and in our experience it is very rare for items that have been sent via a recorded method to go missing, so we feel there is no reason for us to look for another delivery method.

What do you call this comment then?

    One from an incredulous poster?

The poster's terms and conditions state that he has up to 4 years to post a complaint about you and if you're not happy with this you have to wait 25 days before you can contact him to say so.;)

Have to say, my partner uses selectspecs because he needs a certain kind of bong-eye lens and they're dirt cheap, and I can't fault the service. It might be a bit slow (tend to wait about two weeks) but for the price and where they are coming from, I don't mind. One of his little nose-pads fell off the other day because the cat was chewing his glasses (!) and SS have sent out a pack of replacements free of charge. We didn't ask for them to be free, we actually sent an email enquiring about the cost, so I was very pleasantly surprised. Just wanted to balance the thread a little bit.
Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!

Is there a way I can upgrade postage so I don't have to wait another 3 months if these get lost? Or is that not possible?

I'll need another prescription by the time these glasses arrive.

I agree if you want cheap glasses, you can expect to wait or expect a lower quality service. I believe I said this in one of my earlier posts. Spending £135 is not a minor expense though. Maybe SS should bear this in mind when treating all customers the same.

To confirm I haven't waited 4 years to complain about SS, I ordered the glasses in April 2011 and it's the first time I've used SS.

My original post wrongly said I'd "signed up to complain" when I meant "first time I've had reason to complain since signing up". If anything It's proof of how frustrated I've been with the poor support from SS.

Apologies to the other forum members for the wrong terminology.

Right, can I suggest you come back here a bit more often as you'll learn so much.

Can I also suggest also that you read what people are saying in reply to your posts. The Selectspecs rep replied to your post and asked for details which you either missed or ignored initially.

The fact that you claimed to sign up to MSE to complain specifically about Selectspecs would have perhaps been sorted out if you'd explained earlier what you meant.

Anyway, I do hope you get things sorted out....if you don't please vent!...:D

    Paddyrg,

Our delivery service has been vastly improved over the past several months, most customers are receiving their orders from Hong Kong within 2 weeks at the moment. If you have the time, I'd be interested to hear back from you when your order arrives.

Wow, I realize this post is a year old but REALLY, service improved? then why have my glasses not arrived in more than 3 weeks?

your service is crap and i get the same copy cat response every time. when are you people going to suck it up and actually DEAL WITH a customer!

I lost my glasses, looked around online and found a reference on here about Select Specs. I read and weighed up peoples good experiences and rants and decided that £6 plus £5.95 for postage was an ok enough an amount to take a risk.

It paid off. I lost the glasses on a Sunday, ordered them from Select Specs on the Monday and exactly a week later I am sat with glasses.

Nothing for me to complain about and I will be using them again instead of being ripped off by Specsavers again.
  • I have bought four pairs of specs from selectspecs. One pair lost one of the nose pads almost immediately, which has never happened before with other opticians. It took a few emails with long gaps between some, to get to a position where new pads would be ordered for me to fit. After a wait of over a week, a pair of nose pads arrived, but no screws to secure them. I have now sent a further three emails in the last week with zero response. There really is no excuse for this in the 21st century.
