Hi hope this is right place. i have spelt my name all my life 2 letters different from my passport, first name, gave given my passport in loads of places, jobs, local council, when applying for courses, no one has ever said its different....
eurostar never had a problem...
i am flying to india and it might be a problem?
my flatmate goes to india twice a year and last year her surname got spelt wrong...she didnt even worry in the slightest just went to heathrow as per usual....
im confused...
another friend is flying to niece and her name first name has one letter different to her passport and she goes she will not have a problem...
no im not sure if it will be a problem or not, Eurostar is different, in morroco it was fine...had to fill in forms when we got there and when we left, i spelt it as i have dont all my life, checked my passport didnt even acknowledge different...
ive never thought anything of it...
any help /advice please?
thank you.

What airline(s) are you flying with (someone may be able to advise you better then)?Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0

Kingfisher...
have been able to change details with Easyjet before date of birth at no cost as the website we booked through did it...
if we had booked direct i guess we would have had to pay...
kingfisher flight was booked via lastminute.com0 -
Regardless of how many times you've mis-spelled your name to other organisations, I would get in touch with lastminute.com and ask them how much it's going to cost for a name change.
Otherwise you may be denied boarding.0 -
All it needs is some jobsworth & you are well stuffed...........get it sorted.0

You do seem to have a lot of friends with a .. ermm... flexible attitude to spelling.
Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. You can't rely on airlines/immigration officials to be consistent, so the experience of others isn't necessarily a guide. Safer to get it sorted0 -
And really the worst bureaurocrats when it comes to being 'picky' are the Indian immigration authorities.
Don't even consider going and hoping for the best.0 -
Although I agree with the above comments, I've got to ask a couple of things:
1) Why would you spell your name incorrectly??
2) If you always do this, why spell it correctly when applying for your passport??Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
Presumably you must spell it correctly to get a passport.
That said, I would treat travel bookings the same - have to remember that when booking for my mum - she goes by her middle name, but must use her first name on travel docs/bookings. It's weird enough having to use a name for a parent, but one I don't think she has used in half a century is worse.
I did read somewhere that (I think it was a domestic flight), it can sometimes be cheaper to change name than a travel booking!Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -
this happened to me a couple of years ago - The name on my credit card and the one I always use is Sue so when I booked flights with Virgin it simply never occured to me to put Susan. (a mistake I will never make again, lol)
I only realised when I was confirming the flights about 2 days before and the very unhelpful person at virgin told me they only accepted 2 letters different so I would be denied boarding. And it was too late to change the name on the ticket.
I worried about it for 2 sleepless nights and then got on the plane successfully without anyone batting an eyelid:beer:0 -
i spell my name correctly in terms of what ive used since i was 3 so everywhere apart from my passport it is spelt differently so i never thought anything of it...never even look at my passport so didnt even reigster in my head it could be an issue...
its 2 letters different so virgin would have been great for me...
have already contacted lastminute.com around 2 weeks ago...kept getting we will reply to you in next 24 hours, then next 72 hours via email...
yesterday got an email saying they cant do a name change so i have to cancel my flight...and to confirm i want to cancel my flight...
i think they have not spoken to the airline...as the email said we can request the airline put an amendment note on the booking...but of course i could be mistaken...0
