Well, how about replying along the lines of:

"Thank you for your feedback reminder. I will be happy to leave excellent feedback as soon as I have the entire product. I assume the batteries are being sent under separate cover?" :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I never ask for feedback, but I do send a little sneaky note after a month or so, nicely asking if the item was received in good order - and to let me know of there are any problems. This usually prompts people to leave feedback, along with a glowing yes, thank you email. Of course there are still some that disappear off the face of the earth after they pay.

I feel sorry for a recent overseas buyer of mine though. She replied to my fishing email, stating in very broken english that there was a piece missing from her package. I replied immediately, asking her what was missing, so I could replace it. But she never replied, I guess because her english is not good enough to describe what she meant...

When I've posted my items I always send an email to the buyer which says this:

Just to let you know. I have posted the above item today so you should get it soon. Please let me know when it arrives. I have a proof of posting. I will leave feedback for you when you do so for me. I do this as it is the only way to be sure to receive feedback from buyers. Hope you enjoy the item.

  • Seller's take ages to leave feedback, ok they might be busy, but, if i pay straight away i expect feedback before i've recieve my item.
Why should i be the first to leave feedback when i paid straight away!!

use ebay as a last resort!!

    1. Feedback is voluntary
    2. Feedback signals the end of the transaction. Just because you've paid, it doesn't mean the transaction is over.
    3. If I left you feedback when you paid, then you didn't like the item when it arrived, you'd be more likely to neg me without contact as you'd know that I wouldn't be able to neg you back.
    4. Are you buying goods or feedback?
    5.

If I'm asked to leave feedback, then I don't!

Me neither if it's from a seller. Feedback should be intiated by the seller. If they receive prompt payment then as soon as it has cleared they should leave positive feed back saying 'Prompt payment'. The buyer should only leave feed back once the goods have been received and properly tested. I absolutely loathe being asked for feedback the day it's been dispatched.

I also don't enter into childish tit for tat behaviour with regard to feedback and I try to avoid sellers who's feed back makes this apparent.

Feedback is voluntary so no-one should feel under pressure to leave it. Like most buyers/sellers I only read the most recent feedback and just look for exceptional posts as I think this informs more than 1000 "excellent ebayer+++++++"

  • Got to agree with frivolous_fay, if you've ever sold anything, left a positive for the buyer only to be left an unjustified neutral/negative, you quickly learn to not make that mistake again. It works both ways, when buying I never expect a seller to leave me feedback before I've left some for them first, after receiving the item, in fact I'm always a little suprised at those that do, but they'll soon learn!

Has the seller already left feedback for you?

It bugs me if people email or ask for feedback - and normally results in me not leaving it!

I normally leave feedback once I have received the item and am happy with it - ie it is and does what I bought it for. When selling I leave feedback once the buyer has left it - if they dont then I dont - as I prefer to know that they were happy with the item that I sent them

I am mainly a seller and only leave feedback once feedback has been left. This ensures that feedback reflects the whole transaction process - paying for an item is only the start.
