I have been saving red wine vinegar bottles/cider vin bottles to put some sort of flavoured vodka in for small additions to pressies :) Less expensive than big bottles, and saving me as I don't need to buy any. Also have friends keeping me jars!

Made some smoked tomato chutney the other day too so have that hiding away for christmas :)

    Really need to get organised!

I am making my neice a home made health and beauty hamper but need to get some cork stopper bottles so will pop to Oil & Vinegar for some next week.

I saw a really good load of food gifts here so will add some of them to the hampers :)

    Bake Off Boss!
Everybody seem to have been very busy this weekend.
On Saturday I made some pickled nectarines using a recipe that comes from a BBC Zen Skinner cookbook that dates from 1965. My Dad & I used to make these for Christmas when I was a child. Recipe says peaches but picked up nectarines by mistake. Never mind I'm sure thay will be just as good.
On Sunday I made pickled pears.
Never made these before but fancied trying them.
They all look very nice sitting there in their jars & should be great with the gammon I plan to cook for Boxing Day when my family are coming for the day.

We've been busy this weekend too, 2 jars of spiced apple chutney & 6 jars of picalilli (Sp?)

Really looking frwd to this Xmas as it will be the first me & DH have spent just us on Xmas day, we've told the family we're locking the door Xmas Eve & not opening it until boxing day evening when we'll be doing a (very OS) buffet.

    Am actually quite excited :D:D:D:D

I remember being shown at school (when it was called Domestic Science:)) to 'even' up the top of the cake then turn it over so that you have a nice flat surface to ice. So it can't be cheating can it?:D

No that's how I was taught at school

I'm glad someone else remembers Domestic Science, we were also told to make the top of the cake slightly concave before you put it in the oven, then when the middle rises it should be about level with the sides - theoretically!!! Def works withsponge cakes though.
    :)
