Have just got back from the doctors blood pressure has gone up again it's now 162 over ??

doctor has given me Amlodopine tablets to supplement the tablets that had no effect

he said take 1 tablet a day but if they make you feel dizzy and lethargic just take half a tablet

my wife used to be on these tablets about 12 months ago and because of the side effects I asked the doctor to take her off them

have to go back again next week!

I'm getting a bit worried now as my mother had a stroke and is now partially paralysed down one side

    thanks sheils,

good to no that there are some tablets without any side affects which are the downside of most medications

and of course not everyone suffers side affects and they are usually only experienced by a small percentage of patients

Can't believe I've gone nearly 50 years without any serious health problems and without any need for medication

and I now have high cholesterol and high blood pressure and I am now on regular medication :(

    Blood Pressure is tricky amilucky.

162 is a little high but the most important thing is the difference between the diastolic and the systolic figures(the closer they are the trickier). Also as im sure you know the figures change over even the smallest timespan and are affected by stress, activity etc,so even if ur a bit worried or stressed going to the gp,this alone will give a higher reading than a 'normal' resting rate. I take Inderal which Ive never had problems with ( I think the active ingredient is Propranolol). Obviously if you smoke then stop! Exercise is good too obv(as long as no underlying cause makes this impossible),but so is having a cat!!

Cholestrol is trickier,i assume ur on one of the Statins, which should be taken lifelong. These are comparatively new drugs which are highly complicated.(My Statin which I stopped was highly toxic if taken with grapefruit!!) Obv Diet in conjunction with medication is the key to reducing cholestrol figures.(theres also Good and bad cholestrol but can never remember which is which!) If ur worried about history of Stroke etc then cholestrol levels are the ones to get under control.

Dont forget that yr doc is also there for you to talk to about your concerns whether thats yr history or the medication :)

ps.Ive also found that staying away from the Dailies reduces Blood Pressure :D

 lots and lots of snow here too and its still snowing! Schools shut round here too which means I got the day off too so I've been building a snowman with the kids :p Roads are deserted!

Hope they manage to bring your BP down Amilucky. My bro suffers from very high bp too, not sure what tablets he's on as he's has kidney transplant too so has to take lots! Thanks for giving me that link too, couldnt open it from here but i sure kids have lots of protection on this laptop so I'll check in the int. protection first to do a scan. :)
