just a few points from the above posts
there aren't going to be major changes, as I see it, it's just a case of using the 2 boards MSE have in comps properly for the purpose they were set up
once I've gone through every thread in the regs board (and opened them) to check they are still open comps, I'll ask gilla and ppd to go through their threads and update them, hopefully this will just be a case of clicking every link on the list and if the comp is now in GO they can take it off the list, I think it will be the monthlys list that will change the most as people notice more when a daily/weekly ends and lets gilla know.
Once the lists are up to date people can use them as their reference for finding the actual comp thread, it shouldn't be an issue which board they are in as the links in the list will take people straight to the comp, so the rges board will be used for what it was set up for, 'storing' reg comps off the main, faster moving, board.
A new sticky on the main board reminding people to post reg comps in the reg board and linking to each of the list threads will help until things settle down, including some guidelines on constitutes a reg comp (I'll go through this discussion again soon and look at everyones points on what should be a reg comp, discuss it with the other BG's, then let you know what we think before anything is posted) yes there are going to be differing opinions on what is a reg but hopefully we can come to some agreement with anomolies being sorted on an individual basis
there's been a lot of posts on having long threads instead of individual threads for some comps from particular websites, that isn't a change I thought of and there's no reason to change the way any comps are posted, just where they are posted
the mag threads that are posted around the same time every week/month could go in regs (maybe just for a trial) and be linked in the regs lists, and that would be mentioned in the sticky info thread
I did move some comps over yesterday (all the BGs do if they notice a reg comp on the main board) I went through gillas daily list and if it was linked from there but on the main board I moved it, I tried not to move ones that had been posted on very recently so as not to cause too much disruption and see how it went
so no massive changesjust a bit of tidying up

Not quite sure about some of the post's that are now posted on the Regulars board
I note that the SCi-Fi Online comps are now posted on the Regulars board
they are not true dailies in the real sense of the word yes you can enter them dailie but it is the same prize and they have a set closing date
I think that comps should only be transferred over to the Regulars board if there is a new (Daily) (Weekly) or (Monthly) prize and not just because you can make multiple entries in a given period of time
there will be a lot of people who don't do multiple entries who don't venture over to the Regulars board who will now miss out on entering these and numerous other competitions which used to always reside on the main board
i tend to agree. ones like the gmtv ones where you can enter unlimited times, (although think this may have changed) - i would just enter this the once as i came to it on the main board. If this was posted straight into the regular board i would have missed it completely.0 -
Regarding my last post I'd just like to say that I find it very undemocratic that changes are already being implemented without any real discussion or polls with the vast majority of MSE compers
and because there is no proper ruling as to what constitutes a Regular competition that has been put forward and acted upon some people have taken it upon themselves to change postings which have always been placed on the main board
I'm not against change but feel that if changes are to be made they shouldn't be thrust upon people but everyone should have a say in how the changes are to be made and it should then go to a vote or poll0 -

i am probably missing something obvious so please point it out to me if you dont mind. if as you say you must read through every post to find out where you where, and cant keep track by using the thanks button and clicking on view first unread post when you open a thread then i honestly cannot see how you keep track in here or any of the other ongoing threads anywhere on the forum? how do you know in a post you posted where you got to if it has a ton of replies? (and i know that sounds somewhat wrong, im not intending to be nasty or rude or anything similar so please dont take offense i just dont understand).
I guess I'm one of those people. To be honest the simple answer is I don't keep up with all those threads. I look at the Comps Discussion thread as it is a sticky at the top and it is only one thread. I click through the page numbers in that thread to find where I had last finished reading. I never go to the Inn or Postals. I find it extremely difficult to keep up with a lot of the threads that are posted with more than one prize draw in one and often end up missing loads. I don't think I've seen the Company "daily" thread or Sugarscape "daily" thread in months. I couldn't even tell you if they were still there unless I had a search. Things like Takeabreak and Puzzler magazine I usually get to about once a month because I have them bookmarked at the side of my browser, but I often find I've missed a few of the competitions if they were only open for a few weeks. In answer I don't really keep up with any of the ongoing threads, despiute the fact that I am on here many hours each day. Hope that kind of answers from my point of view.
From the sounds of it we both enter competitions in complete opposite ways.I note that the SCi-Fi Online comps are now posted on the Regulars board
they are not true dailies in the real sense of the word yes you can enter them dailie but it is the same prize and they have a set closing date
I think that comps should only be transferred over to the Regulars board if there is a new (Daily) (Weekly) or (Monthly) prize and not just because you can make multiple entries in a given period of time
This highlights the problem of not having an official MSE definition of a regular. What you have described is exactly what I regard as a regular entry competition. In my definition the ones where the prizes or questions change each day/week/month are not regular.0 -

The problem is that not all of the comps in my opinion are true Regular comps on Gillas thread but are MULTIPLE entry comps over a set period of time
Really think that what constitutes a regular comp really needs to be clarified to avoid any further confusion0 -
"the mag threads that are posted around the same time every week/month could go in regs (maybe just for a trial) and be linked in the regs lists, and that would be mentioned in the sticky info thread"
hiya, would that mean we've got to keep pm'ing/sending the info to whoever runs the reg lists in the stickies every time we post the new ones?
it does take a long time sometimes to type out all the info/t&c's, check issue numbers etc & specially on the puzzler/tab monthly ones as some are holidays etc,
also the prize details/etc on the weekies,
that's life/pick me up sometimes change the format on the forms so have to rearrange them every week so all in all it does take up a while to type them allif we have to keep asking the stickie people to update them as well it's going to take even longer ?

Just out of interest, does anyone enter a different way to either 1. Keeping up as things are posted or 2. By end date?
Yes - Likeability View.
I don't have time to enter even a fraction of all the comps that are posted, so (with the exception of a couple of brain teaser ones that I like), I enter in Likeability View and just see what ones are unticked in the first ten pages or so. (Sometimes going off at a tangent though). With the Green ticks, it doesn't matter if my method is a bit haphazard and I don't mind if I miss loads, as I know that I could never enter even half of the ones posted.
It won't matter to me what is decided about what goes in the regulars and what goes in the normal board, although, I do think that a poll is a good idea.0 -
Another point I have about things being posted as a thread in the regulars is that you have to be very on the ball if you want to keep up. Obviously you can't see any closing dates without going into the thread itself.
Say I went in there on a Monday to do all the "weeklies" one week. I would then have to go there the next Monday at exactly the same time in order to do the next week's "weeklies". If I was busy and didn't get round to this until Thursday or something, I would miss out on all competitions that ran from Wednesday to Wednesday. The same goes for "monthlies", not all of them start/finish at the start/finish of the month. If competitions are posted separately with separate end dates this isn't a problem. I am specifically talking about "weeklies" and "monthlies" at the moment as I know there have been issues brought up about "dailies" such as ClassicFM being posted like this.0
