A few weeks ago while I was on hoilday a parcel arrived at my house, I obviously wasn't in so the delivery company left it at a neighbours. When I got back I looked at the parcel, it was addressed to me at my address. I opened it and found a brand new laptop from Tesco Direct. At the time I wasn't too phased by this as I am a PC guru and in the past friends have sent me items direct so that I can removed all the pre-installed rubbish and fine tune the system, install software like Office etc etc.

So I pop it in a corner and wait for a call.

Eight weeks later I have forgotten about the laptop but a tescos clubcard letter comes through my door, which is strange because I have never had one in my name - my wife has but I never have. Then I suddenly clicked, I then went to check the delivery slip/docs on the laptop.

It is addressed to me at my address and paid for by a card ending 6002 - scrambling now I log into Experian to see if someone has opened some account without my knowledge, but NOTHING (and in that 8 weeks I have opened a new phone contract - all that info was there but nothing else). None of my accounts end in those numbers either.

Also the the person who paid for the laptop got clubcard points (exactly 958) - and yes the clubcard letter stated I had 958 points........

So someone has ordered a laptop, paid for it and then also opened a clubcard in my name and got the points issued on that card. But the card used to pay for the goods was not mine or opened against my name according to my credit report.

Does anyone know !!!!!! is happening? Is it a scam? Has someone used a stolen card and had the item delivered to me? (But that would beg the question Why?????

Tried ringing Tesco but got nowhere because of the Data protection Act.

I am at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

PS I have asked all friends/relatives an no one has sent me a laptop.

PPS Legally if no fraud has been commited paying for the item, it is in my name and addressed to me - is it mine?

So a few weeks ago you got a new laptop sent to you and you then forgot about. You had no contact from your 'friends' about anything

If i was cynical I would think you were waiting to see if someone would contact you to claim it............. but i'm not that cynical am I?

Nice post - added no information or help in any way to the situation.

    Why bother?

Timescale wouldn't matter anyway - eight weeks ago - now the problem is the same, try and stay focused !!!!!!

If the circumstances are as you describe; the goods are "unsolicited", you appear to have contacted Tesco who are being obstructive - to be honest I would just sit on my big fat *** and wait ! You might get a free laptop.
    YOU have done nothing untoward.

I don't understand how the DPA would have prevented you from discussing it with Tesco - presumably you know your own details!

When you order from Direct it automatically opens a clubcard account if you don't have one, so that explains that bit

You obviously didn't ead my initial post properly.

Do me a favour and ring up Tesco and ask them for details about your account - one thing though... you can only give them your name and address:- Things atrt to get sticky when they ask you for account login details and even the email your registered the account under..........

They politely tell you because of the data protection act they cannot speak to me.

The thing that puzzles me is I have checked my credit ref - nothing. Rang my bank - nothing.

Tescos obviously aren't upset (not been ripped off) or they would have written to my address, so as far as they are concerned they have been paid. But by who? it says my name but I have no account that matches and none of my money was used.

    So how was it possible?

    Debt-free and Proud!
interesting, i know you can tell which bank accounts some cards come from by the numbers, but i think its the start of the number not the end which i am guesiing is what you have on the statement.

very strange. Was the order in your name at your address or was that just the delivery details? Does it say something different for the invoice at all?
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Whenever you see cards numbers like that they are always the last 4 digits - none of my cards have been used.

Both order address and delivery address are the same - mine. The clubcard assigned to the account was in my name also and I got the points vouchers through today (which prompted my concern)

    thanks

I'd give Tesco Direct a call rather than their clubcard section, If the item has been delivered in your details then they should be able to see your details on there system, Which clears there DPA problem.
