If I remember, that's a laptop and a desktop problem in the recent past, have you looked at fixing them, rather than buying a replacement?

What to look for depends on what you are going to use it for, the one mentioned has no dvd writer which you may or may not need, and may not be suitable for the latest games if that is a requirement.

Sounds like XP without a genuine licence. Notwithstanding, without the price it would be impossible to recommend it.

If this is the symptom, your hard disk hasn't died

Did you follow any of the advice on your previous threads?

If the laptop hard disk is really is faulty (I'd be very sceptical), a new hard drive costs £30-40, and you don't need W7, so a £195 fix cost is plucked out of thin air.

Re the tower, died on me (and old and knackered) means what?

It's just annoying to read things like this. As closed has pointed out, you can do the job yourself(with a little help from us) for the cost of a new hard drive(£30).

What is the make and model number of the laptop?

And why is it Annoying ? Yes maybe u can get a new harddrive and do this yourself, i know nothing at all about computers i work full time as a nurse and a busy mum aswell, the laptop has been very well used snd has played up ever since i brought this and this is the second harddrive that has gone, i would rather just buy a tower which would suit my 13 yr old better

It's annoying that PC World come up with ridiculous quotes.

This is a money saving website. We prefer that you spend as little as possible in order to get the job done.

Of course we don't actually know (or necessarily believe) that the hard drive is 'gone', but we are often appalled at the quotes that the likes of PC World dare to suggest.

Apart from all that, what makes you think an equally old PC tower from ebay would be any more reliable?

Don't underestimate your ability. What is the make and model number of the laptop?
Why am I guessing that you bought it from the PC World group in the first place? :)
    What is your budget?
