It's annoying that PC World come up with ridiculous quotes.

This is a money saving website. We prefer that you spend as little as possible in order to get the job done.

Of course we don't actually know (or necessarily believe) that the hard drive is 'gone', but we are often appalled at the quotes that the likes of PC World dare to suggest.

Apart from all that, what makes you think an equally old PC tower from ebay would be any more reliable?

Don't underestimate your ability. What is the make and model number of the laptop?
Why am I guessing that you bought it from the PC World group in the first place? :)
    What is your budget?
I brought this laptop in Dixons not pc world, the make is Toshiba dont know the model number as its round my parents house

    Same.

Let us know the full model number when you get the chance. I'm sure that you can call your parents. ;)

We on this board have zero confidence in that your job was done in your best interests.

If your laptop has Vista installed, it's not that old at all. Two HDDs 'gone'? I don't think so.

I'm sure that we can get it back to new running condition for next to nothing.

windows failed to start, a recent hardward or software change might be the cause.

    Toshiba Satellite L300-1BW

It's not much older than eighteen months. I refuse to believe that two HDDs have gone in less than eighteen months.

Even if it had 'gone', a competent technician would have it up and running within the hour. Complete with Windows 7.

What I will say is that it needs more RAM if you haven't had more installed. Another 1 GB at least.
