Evening all
Still no snow here trying hard, thankfully. It's due to sleet tomorrow and i'm hoping that will be as bad as it gets. Snow terrifies me after my accident and it's just such an inconvenience! I can't wait 'til April either, or at least 'til the threat of snow goes. I wouldn't mind so much if i could just stay at home and make snowmen lol.
Loving all the ideas for next year's challenge; I plan to take it a bit more seriously next year - and at least last longer than about March. Mind you, as others say, that wasn't the most valuable part of the challenge. Ooh just had a knock at the door, hate it when that happens as i always expect bad news. It was someone from Red Cross, good of him to be out in this weather. Anyway, i'm rambling! Can't wait to hear everyone's accounts of this year's dribbling. Has anyone made the 10K..?Just £10,852.28p to go...
Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
And then do it.0 -
I've probably made about ten quid but I dont care coz meeting all you lot is better than money (well unless its a billion quid lol) I've got about £900 left on my car loan so that will be my challenge for next year!0

Haha Mabel you'd sell us for a billion quid! Charming! Ooh maybe there's an idea in that somewhere...? er ok maybe not...Just £10,852.28p to go...

The £10,000 Train to Smirkentree
One day in January 2010, I was reading through Money Saving Expert looking for ideas to save some money .I chanced upon a thread which was change £100 into £10,000, since then I have become hooked. I never keep at anything ,diets, exercise, plans but this was something that has grabbed my imagination.
Maybe it was because it was the turn of the year I mean 2010 seems somehow more important than the turn of the millennium to me, some of the 0000’s were rough for me some wonderful but some really not so and I think I saw the opportunity here to do something about it actually do something .
Well it turns out a few others have been inspired as well ,well more than that I reckon 300+ on the thread there are certainly 40-50 regulars that keep the thread bouncing along with energy ,stories ,ideas, theories, jokes, misery, sadness and most importantly madness. Not the run of the mill madness, it’s a special kind of madness that induces enthusiasm, strange moneymaking schemes and definite camadere strange word to use in 2010 but definitely there. No-one cares about winning no-one cares about getting to the winning line before December but we will certainly be very pleased if someone actually makes it, there will be drinks flowing in every part of the UK, Spain I’m sure at the start there was an Australian will need to check .
I am writing this as I sit in my living room with yet another repeat of New Tricks liked it first time can’t understand how they can show so many repeats on T.V. and still get ratings, got to laugh as I am sitting here writing my first book well I think that’s what it will become, have to say its weird with a weird title. The reason I say its weird is that before I found The Thread I had actually started to write a book but it bored the pants off me so I deleted it , and yet here I am starting again and who would have guessed at the title do you want to get on my train and visit Smirkingtree you see you can get on with a few belongings or £100.00 but when you get off you need to have changed it to £10,000 lets go you just know this journey is going to be exciting but a little bit crazy lets go loco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The day was bright but in a weird way, that kind of light that makes you squint when you are driving, even if you put down the visor and it makes no difference as I drove down my street and turned into my drive I could see something glinting .I parked up and got out of the car god its old you see we traded the good one for the caravan.
I keep trying to tell my 9 year old that it meant we didn’t have to get a loan for it ,it was straight in my head you see we obviously didn’t pay off any debt but we didn’t accrue anymore you see I am trying to get into the groove with Martin Lewis’s Money Saving Expert website. The thing is though she is 9 and she is really missing the heated seats that the Mondeo had ,really nice here in freezing cold Scotland me I miss the heated windscreen I now have to chip ice off the inside of the windscreen .But not today ,today the sun is shining ,blinding me but its sunshine it really has been a long winter, you see as a true mser I’m sure there should be an I in there as in miser we have tried to turn down the heating but Jesus we live in Scotland its freezing and extra layers just don’t cut it .
You will get used to me going off at tangents its me you see easily distracted ,so back to the glinty thing yes it was a penny well actually 50p I was chuffed you see I need the money ,no we are not poor in debt yes but not poor its me I joined a challenge to try and turn £100 into £10,000 .I think it has made me quite obsessed ,I update the thread at least 10 x a day how am I going to make it I think it will be the ones not logging on everyday that will get to the target but I don’t know maybe they got bored and joined one of the other challenges.
So back to the 50p that’s how I got my first £1.00 well I had found 50p in my handbag in change from my night out, so what to do with the £1.00 .think I will just buy a lottery ticket could you imagine if I can log in tomorrow and just write turned £1.00 into £3.4 million the others will be so annoyed I mean there is starting to be a bit of banter on there and that would mean I wouldn’t be able to log back on
.I enjoy reading about their days, lifes and plans for capturing the big £10,000
That was back in April feel the same now lolSo finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x0 -
That was brilliant Elly. You really have a talent for writing... have you tried sending off some stories to a magazine sometime they hve comps for 100 words. It might be Prima or something like that.
Well folks, I woke up this morning and the white stuff is here omg. I had to go to work in it and the main roads were ok it's just getting there. At the end of the lane where I live there is a sharp slope up to the bigger road that goes to the big A road. I managed to get up in one go, not sure about tomorrow though! Never mind, I must stop getting worked up about the ice, I too had an accident when my daughter was a baby and although it wasn't my fault it was on an icy road.
I am busy making a small list of things to pay off by 2012 starting with the smallest and ending with the biggest and then I will update my signature, that way I can cross of my mini challenges as I go along.8 years of being on a DMP finished 3/3/140 -

problem with the writing is that i really did write that in april and no more since.i think us lot deserve a calender girls movie although since we are all debt ridden my book would probably end up like full monty with all of us wearing merkins lolSo finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x0 -
