And how does that help? They have been overcharged. Going back and getting into a dispute when clearly it is intended as a misguided attempt to recover some of the lost money is a ridiculous suggestion.

you play them at their own game. They already refused the refund.
The amount will have shown up on the card reader - the customer accepted it.

If they are going to mess the customer about - mess them about then go elsewhere.

Are you suggesting this as a solution to all problems. For example, if a shop refuses a refund on a 2 year old TV that is faulty, just help yourself from one on display?

But you can't simply pay them what you like and zip off. You would have to leave your name and address and if they wanted to take it further, they could.

    Daft advice.

It's after the fact but for future reference you should always check your bill while you're there. Same as in any shop really.

I don't think it makes you look like a cheapskate in front of guests, just seems like common sense.
  • Hi Guys,

Just an update to what happened been on holiday for a number of weeks.

Initially the duty manager called me and advised the general manager refused to give us a refund, so i went in to speak to duty manager and advised him to ask the general manager to reconsider his decision. If then he still refused a refund I will write a letter and give them 14 days to respond then I will go down the trading standards route (as advised by the consumer direct). 2 days later duty manager called back and gave me a refund.

Lots of comments of check receipt first before leaving, i've learned my lesson here. But I felt that once we had brought up the fact that we had been overcharged, I couldn't back down as it looks like I'm taking the P**S

Just out of my curious interest - How could you prove that you or no-one of your party of people actually had what you paid for?

Restaurants keep the chits that are sent through to the kitchen so if they can prove it was cooked and left the serving area how are you going to prove this isnt so?

just being a devils advocate here.
