I can recommend the Aldi tuna in spring water 79p but its far far better than the leading brand, its really chunky tuna and not a load of mush. I can get 6 sarnies out of a tin ( I am quite generous with tuna, so you would probably get more)
FF do two Hovis loaves for £1.00
Also look out for Heron Frozen Foods as they have some great offers on branded foods.grocery challenge Sept 2012 £21/£3990 -
Home bargains, you can get 24 loo rolls for £2.99 and they're good IMO.

Thanks so much everybody!
I will go and give these stores a try this week and see how I get on. I'm a little bit worried though as all my shopping is currently done online with Tesco so I am wary of going "shopping" again! I need to be disciplined not to pick up things I dont need.
Narabanekeater - I shop for me and my husband plus two toddlers (21 months and 36 months) - we both work full time and I make packed lunches for us all. We buy our meat from the butchers (pork steaks, individual pies, sausages, mince) and the rest from Tesco (joints, chicken breasts, cooked meats). I buy 2 bags of potatoes a week and that provides for all our lunches and dinners. We have 2 pieces of fruit per day plus our veg at night/lunches which is usually frozen. We dont eat convenience food apart from sausages which the children would eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I let them! I am a sucker for sweet things and I buy 2 packs of biscuits a week and I bake cakes during the week too. We drink squash and my husband usually gets through around 25 cans of lager a week too (approximately 3 per night, more at weekends).
Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

Shout me down if speaking out of turn, but wouldn't your Husbands Beer money be better spent on feeding his family.

aldi fruit and veg is great quality and very cheap, especially if you buy their weekly special fruit/veg. meat at aldi is slightly cheaper than other places but is still good quality. the biscuits/treats there are cheap and delicious, and they do great value yoghurts. my parents used to do 80% of the shopping at aldi taking advantage of the special offers and we ate good quality, healthy foods, lots of variety and tried lots of different european brands and meals, for the price of sainsburys basics

My family is well fed thank you. I wasnt asking for comments on my buying habits, just telling you what I bought and asking which of my items you would buy in which store.
I personally dont think 25 cans a week is a lot. If a bloke goes down the pub, he can easily sink 8 pints at £2.50 each in one night.

I just got a flyer through the door for Bargain Booze - 2 x cases 15 cans (Stella, Carlsberg, etc) for £16, which I thought was a pretty good deal. I agree about the booze - I'd much rather my partner had a couple of cans at home than down the pub every night, so we always stock up when there's good offers.0
