Personal Car Leasing/ Hire

  • I've just handed back an A3 5-door Sportback which cost me approx. 210/month from LingsCars inc. VAT. Only 3 payments up front too. 2-year lease is now up.

I don't think that deal is still available now though but it gives you an idea of what is out there? Prices/deals change with the weather.

Did you have any maintanence cover with that?

Also - do you need to provide your own insurance, or does this get included in the lease (as it would if you rented a holiday auto)?

(Sorry for the easy questions....that's why I'm after a Beginners guide.)
  • Non-maintenance.
    No insurance.

But you get neither when buying a new car anyway.

I think it depends on how long you like to keep cars, if you just want a nice new caitycar every two years then groovy.

If you are looking to gain ownership of a car and want to keep the same car for 4 or 5 years then it won't make much sense, also if you are self employed and can offset the leasing costs against your tax liability then they are a good idea.

My current car has cost me, including tyres and servicing, about £3000, over two years, and it is till worth about £2750-£3000.

Everybody has a different opinion on what constitutes a good deal, but I wouldn't do it unless there was a tax advantage, as I don't like having credit, but I also like to own my cars, as in my mind that makes them an asset rather than a tool.

A girl at work has a sister that works for BMW, result she has a nice new car every 2 years, she gets them at a good price, and never worries about servicing, but she likes a nice car and it works out well for her.

My mind can't get round the fact that after paying out the best parts of £4000/£5000 over two years you then give it back, that just makes no sense to me.
