Is it just me who doesn't want a 'proper' hen night?

Actually, I'm quite relieved that I'm not going to be having a hen night. ;)

If I were doing a normal kind of wedding (no-one knows about ours, it's a big secret, shhh!) then I would go for the girly night in or a spa day.

I would hate the whole "L" plate, whoop-whoop kind of night! :D

  • I used to enjoy the whole feather boa, pink cowboy hat, sash and willy straw affairs, but its pretty much my ideal of hell these days.

I have told my bridesmaids that I dont want any of that, just a night away in Edinburgh, with maybe a cocktail making class, dinner somewhere and some pubs. I am not much of a dancer and want to have a good time, rather than end up drinking shots and spewing in a bin - I have served my time on those nights out!

Luckily my mum will be involved too, so hopefully she can keep a rein on things, one of my BMs is very much in the tacky camp!

We're going up the lakes, staying in a hostel friday and saturday nights, full days canoeing on the saturday with a champagne lunch and then a spa day on the sunday.

It works out at about £150pp including everything apart from drinks. Ive given everyone plenty of notice so they can save up for it, but i wont be offended if some cant make it and ive said people can just come to the spa day if its too expensive to come for a whole weekend.

Is this the 3 lake canoeing? I really fancy that! Or something else activity based Go Ape is fantastic and I'd even do paintballing on the condition that there was enough time for any bruises to fade!!

I'm not having a hen night, I might consider a meal out but I really don't see the point.

I have had a few surprised looks when I have said I'm not planning anything but it would honestly be a tortuous experience for me and even if I was promised it would be low key I'd still dread everyone getting carried away after a few drinks. I'd rather save the money and with only 2 more weekends to go I don't have the time!

I suppose its whatever floats your boat but definitely not for me.

Nope, I don't want one either, and even put that on my FB page, much to the annoyance of some!!

For the posters that mentioned go ape. There is something similar at Knowseley safari park, you can do an assault course that takes a couple of hours then get in to the walk around bit of the zoo for free. I've never been to knowseley safari park before so I'm planning on doing this, there's no way I could get anyone to drive round! It costs about £25. I think I'll be the only one who enjoys my hen day!
  • I'm not having a hen night, nor do I feel like I'm missing out. We're having a tiny wedding at a beautiful hotel in the highlands early next year with a few of our closest friends, and don't feel like we need anything else. I'd feel a bit bad for our friends if they had to fork out for a hen night for each of us. Instead we'll just have a spa/wedding/honeymoon retreat in the snow for our nearest and dearest. Can't wait.

i wasn't bothered but had a lot of friends who can't make the wedding for various reasons and thought it might be nice to celebrate with some of them.. i know its a compete no-no etiquette wise but thats the only reason i am doing it! i am in london and loads of my maes live in manchester so i am just going for a meal and out for karaoke night there in china town and whoever wants to join us is welcome. its hard enough getting people together for the wedding so trying to organise a proper hen night ould be mental!

i am doing a goody bag just to make it 'different' from a night out with friends but nly cheap stuff like balloons and bubbles and sweets. nothing too outlandish as a cuple of my guests are only 17. :)

i've rented an apartment for the night, and organised for a friend of a friend who has done nails and beauty at college to come over and do manicures, make-up etc for a few quid if people want it. she's also a body shop party planner so she's going to bring the body shop stuff too and just do a really relaxed party while we all get ready to go out drinking. I'm certain that it'll turn into a crazy willy-fuelled puke-fest, but most looking forward to the pampering at the beginning and then it will be nice to go out for a boogie with my girls, i haven't seen some of them in a while!

i would have preferred to do a spa day, but i know that the people i wanted there wouldn't be able to afford it so this was the best solution for me really - and at least i get to have a bit of special relaxing nail treatments whilst my friends can just be there without paying anything if they'd prefer!
