Is it just me who doesn't want a 'proper' hen night?

Does anyone else think hen nights are a bit unnecessary... well what they have turned into nowadays? I think they are embarassing
I have been on 3 hen nights (2 were for the same person, she had one in her home town and one in the big city) and 2 of those ended in drama between the girls. One of the ones I didn't go on was a 'hen holiday' in Spain, I couldn't afford to go and do think that I was judged for not going considering I was one of the bridesmaids. But I just couldn't afford it and also couldn't get the time off work.
On the hen nights I went on they were a bit crazy and embarassing. The hen dancing on poles and trying to get us all to do the same. Now, I can do crazy things but that just isn't one of them. They also had buckets collecting money for kissing guys on the cheek. I just can't do that! I don't think I could even have a stripper.
All I want is a night out at my favourite metal club with a bunch of my good girl friends, dancing the night away and having some drinks. I love to get drunk with the best of them but I don't want to get angry drunk like I have seen some hen nights end up
I don't want them to have to spend much money which is why I have offered the two bridesmaids who live far away to stay at my flat for the weekend. It's £5 to get into the club, then drinks. I would feel bad if they had to pay for a limo and stripper and tshirts etc etc.
Am I the only one?

nope it isn't just you....I'd love to just go with a few close friends for a spa day and stop over at the hotel with a nice meal and a few drinks. If I drink too much these days I suffer from cystitis...not the best thing to do before a wedding lol. Definitely don't have the budget for a do abroad0

Ouch, cystitis is a pain in the... yeah not nice at all! I hate that cystitis feeling. It's the worst. Yeah totally, just a low key hen do is what I like. A spa and meal sound nice
I think people just seem to go over the top and have the spa, meal, crazy night out AND a holiday. I've seen that before!

Nope! I don't want any of that either. I often see hen night groups out in Nottingham and the whole L plate, veil and inflatable thingy look just isn't my thing! I'm planning on just having a spa day and a meal out with my closest friends.
Drunken, cackling screechy hen party - no thanks!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
Nooo, i'm exactly the same and I was mulling over whether to post my own thread tonight!
Apparantly, my Aunty was trying to organise a meal for me, where there would be me, her, my Mum, my daughter and my Nan, plus a few of my friends.
How it can be a secret I don't know, as I have stuff to do every weekend till the wedding, plus OH is on call for 2 of those weekends and then it's his stag night, so there are 3 weekends out of 6 gone already. And how can it be secret, were they all gonna turn up here and say get your gladrags on we're going out??
Then they were talking (to OH, not me! I'm not meant to know remember) about a Chinese in town. I hate town. I don't want to go there.
OH suggested an Indian place which I love.
That's no good apparantly, Mum doesn't like the smell of Indian food.
Aunty wonders why she is organising it and my Mum isn't.
Nobody asked anyone to organise anything ~ I don't even want a piggin hen night!
Think i'll just go for a meal with the family members, then go for a few drinks with a few friends.
One friend was asking me if she could sort that out but I would dread it as I don't want L plates and pink wings and willy straws and silly dares, I'd rather sit at home !!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
No, it's not just you. I have no wedding plans yet but if I was faced with the prospect of a hen do, I'd just want to do what I usually do for a night out or a day out even. I'd be quite happy at a metal club or a gig with my pals and it just being like a regular night out.Debt: Started at £4780, now at £4190

my dd had her hen night at a murder mystery dinner - it was 'Rocky Horror' themed and we all dressed to the theme (mostly basque tops and trousers but a couple of full basque outfits - nothing like frank n furter though!lol). The bride was dressed in a white basque with a white tutu, white fishnets and a little top hat on a headband with 'bride' on it. Oh, and pink and white boa! It was a brilliant night and everyone enjoyed it just as much (if not more) than a 'club crawl'. Thing is it was exactly my dd's thing, which a 'club crawl' definately is not.
The only embarrassing thing that happened was that a wedding was taking place at the venue and the bride was being photographed as we got out of the car, the photographer saw my dd in her outfit and turned to take photo's of her! She turned her back and walked away but earned some nasty looks from the bride!lol0 -
I was coerced into the whole willy straw, L plates, pole dancing thing by my sister... I thought I'd be mortified but to be honest it wasn't any different to many a drunken night i've had out before!:rotfl:trying to become a moneysaving student0

I'm not looking forward to my "proper" hen -night next weekend, I'd much rather just have my spa break this weekend & not bother, it is more for the girls I work with whom we can't invite to the wedding due to number restrictions (and even with an italian meal and drinks in town, it will be cheaper than the hotel bar prices!).
The best bit about the spa is that the restaurant is "no jeans, no mobile phones" so the gorls can't make me wear a sash or flashing bunny ears!
E.T.A. when I go to the loo after paying my bit of the bill, the restaurant will be calling my taxi home0 -
I'll add another vote to the pile, I don't intend on having a 'proper' hen night at all. My aim is to keep costs as low for my girls as I can, and the plan at the moment is to hire a cottage for the weekend (at my own expense) and then have everyone over for a weekend of nothing but girly movies, cupcake and cocktail making with some pampering thrown in.Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one! The whole L plates, willy straws makes me laugh, but tbh it's kinda been done to death if you have been on a few hen nights. Just want something different, you know? And if 'different' is just a normal night out at my favourite metal club with a black veil as my only 'hen' accessory then that will do nicely!0
