Use the moneysupermaket link t opricecheck your insurance, the list shows who covers what, cancellation etc.

Read the small print though for booking AFTER potential industrial action has been annouced.

Take communication methods with you - ie laptop or web enabled phone, so you can keep up to date with what's happening.;)

For anyone else looking into insurance cover. Phoned up Nationwide, apparently it covers and we've just purchased.

I've just booked mine through Columbus Direct - they cover volcanic ash and the pending strikes. Best to book any insurance before they announce the dates!

P.S. 17% cashback with Columbus. Check it out: http://www.topcashback.co.uk. (Edited just for photome - happy?) :P

    Danko xx

I wonder if the free European cover they're now offering their current account customers will cover this? Might be a big bonus for anyone travelling after any strike is announced but who couldn't / didn't get insurance before.

Less than half BAA emplyee's are members of the unite union, so unless unite pickets are going to get heavy handed (again) icant see how they are going to close all these airports.

According to an "expert" on BBC Radio 5 Dead if the fire crews are all out or undermanned, the airports have to close down by law.

The BAA management really are a disgrace. These overpaid misshapes should grow up and face up to their responsibilities.

I do not think you are allowed referral links on this forum.

Also, anyone booking with Columbus Direct, use the code RT20 for 20% off your policy. Details here: http://www.responsibletravel.com/Copy/Copy100889.htm

The Quidco won't work with the 20% by the way.

FACT is this strike doesn't have more than 50% support of the 6185 staff and should not take place.
UNITE have failed to get enough support for a strike and need to get back around the negotiating table.

Trouble is, they have a majority of those who voted. Everybody had the chance to vote. For whatever reason 50% odd couldn't be bothered/chose not to/didn't know what to vote. For whatever reason they didn't vote, this demonstrates how dangerous voter apathy can be.

Correct. If the firemen don't go to work, you have no fire cover, if you have no fire cover, you have no airport.

I can't see it coming to a strike, it seems both sides actually want to get back around the table. A mandate to strike though is a massive tool for the union and should help to focus the minds of BAA management.

    Sorry bagand96, didn't realise! :o

Great heads up on the 20% discount though - could have done with that before! :rotfl:

Those planning to fly from Heathrow, what options do you think will be available if the strikes go ahead? Do you think some of the airlines might use Gatwick for example, instead as it won't be effected?

No worries, didn't want you getting into trouble thats all. You've only lost out 3% as you can't combine the Topcashback and the 20%, its one or the other, so no big loss for you really!
