Well pimento, as I mentioned without any suggestion of YouTube, it is clear that VOIP applications like Skype use up quite a bit of data on voicecalls, but I would agree that nomoneytoday may be onthemoneytoday

The network isnt going to charge you for data you didnt use, the charges get passed on from the roaming network, I'd imagine you were using wifi, and if you lose the wifi connection it defaults to the mobile network0

didnt use wifi and disconnected internet connection before travel,02 talked me through it.in our case if we wanted internet access we paid in the hotel and used their computers.0

Ive had a look into this as im off to Bulgaria next week and have an iphone.I found that the best deal for data was from T-mobile payg. You pay 10 pounds for 50mb of data which is good considering some networks charge 6 pounds for just 1mb.

Orange will have the data from the foreign network to support the charges - or not. If not then you're ok. The network should provide your sim serial no and imei to identify the billing as yours, so they should be able to come back to you fairly quickly.
did you use voice roaming? Make many calls?0 -
Agreed. Since owning a HTC Desire, everytime I leave the UK it now stays here and I take another phone with a PAYG sim in it. I'm not risking the data rip off.
Also handily stops me making the mistake of going in the sea with an expensive phone in my pocket!
Not exactly related to the OP (sympathies) but I took my HTC Desire to the US recently for 2 weeks. I turned off data roaming before I left, and turned off mobile internet. This left it free for calls and texts, but only data via wifi. Worked fine. I got back to a bill of £6 out of quota for a couple of calls and texts.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. don't know why brits like hot countries: Get there and they just drink in hotel bar and watch eastenders! And in this case play on there iphone. facebook post: 'In turkey having a great time sat in a englished themed bar eating a full english breakfast watching BBC World Service' LMAO0

The OP should have only needed to turn off data roaming, but ive found turning off cellular data to means that there is no possible way i could accidently use an iphone app which uses data, with both methods turned off you can only access the internet with wifi,
Yep this "bug" has been well documented both on MSE and other places.

No one has mentioned the OP's biggest mistake, cancelling the Direct Debit. Your credit rating will get screwed and you'll get an even bigger bill when the debt collectors come knocking.0
