To quote from Bachman Turner Overdrive (or, for the younger ones, Smashie & Nicey ;)), "you aint seen nothing yet"!

Once the OFT conclude their investigation into overdraft default charges & bounced DD's etc, this topic will move swiftly onto the Utilities board (when people realise that there are claims to be had there as well), and from there to somewhere else.

Just a thought...if the Utility companies are forced to reduce their failed DD charges, their only recourse is to prohibit persistant offenders from enjoying such facilities, and their associated favourable pricing. Obviously they'd want to recover this lost revenue by other means...a different tariff, or revising their fees for paying by methods other than DD perhaps?
  • yeah know what you mean

think i will give this thread a miss

I think you are both missing the point. This thread is about NOT Claming back bank charges, and taking pride in the fact that you don't incur them. After all if the CAG lot can pat themselves on the back then why can't we?
  • Yes I know M Thomson - I have never had a charge in my life and don't plan on having one.

I do understand that some people get some and sometimes not always their fault.

What I was saying - if you look at todays posts in the bank account thread - literally 80% of them are on charges

This post is good in the way you said.

but for the other ones - I just want to read something new ( am i alone? )

I'm fully aware of "the point". I just took it slightly off topic with my reply to regularsaver1. I hope it didn't detract from the theme too much.

First of all - I'd like to make it clear that I do NOT have an issue with this thread. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we are not all going to share the same viewpoint.

Absolutely - pat yourselves on the back for managing your finances really well. I applaud you - genuinely and without a hint of sarcasm... Please reserve the same attitude towards me.

I have paid bank charges - thanks to CAG I have had £1700 returned from Lloyds TSB... How did I get myself in this predicament.... They cancelled my £1000 overdraft 6 months before it was due to be reviewed and without informing me. Payments were entering my account regularly and the overdraft was reducing each month by £100. The first I knew of it was when collections started chasing for the full balance, by then because my account was 'seriously' in arrears they were unable to put ANY overdraft facility on my account. The charges I encurred where from unathorised overdraft charges, and because the charges caused me to be more overdrawn - I was hit for another charge. Before this incident I had paid a few charges in the past when I had mis-managed my account - but £1700 is taking the biscuit.

Furthermore, I am about to start a claim against the Halifax... Here she goes again I'm sure you are all thinking - but please, if anyone can justify them charging me £1400 in 5 weeks - please tell me, I'd love to know. How did this situation occur.... My error.... My partner gets paid the last Thursday of every month. I got it wrong one month by a few days - the cheques I'd written weren't honoured because his salary wasn't in the bank... I wrote 5 cheques. Each resulted in a charge, we also got extra charges because we were over the overdraft limit. When the salary finally hit we were £400 down. Then the mortgage backed out - another charge and so it went on. The final total came to £1400 in charges. I asked to extend our overdraft and reduce it by £350 each month, this was rejected. I asked them to apply the charges over a 3 month period - they refused. Halifax have done NOTHING to help us. At the time I wasn't even asking to have the charges removed - just time in which to pay them. They refused. I willingly hold my hand up and say that I caused these charges by miscalculating when we would have funds - but nothing excuses the fact that by refusing to help us, we have encurred further charges and therefore increased their profits. I will be claiming them back.

On a brighter note.... We no longer bank with the Halifax!

For those of you who are managing your accounts - yes, have a pat on the back, seriously - well done, but please don't denegrate into name calling - and that applies to those of us who have claimed charges back too.
