Not claimed back bank fees - success thread

Ok, since there's a thread for those happy at claiming back hundreds and thousands of pounds of money when they didnt obey their terms and conditions, I thought we should have one for us guys who did.

You may post your success story here if

1. You have always abiden by your terms and conditions - i.e. not gone over limits, never paid late or paid back the wrong amount by the wrong time.

Or

2. If you have done so once or twice but accepted on those occasions that you didnt manage your account properly and took it on the chin, especially as you didnt object to the terms and conditions when you signed up to the account.

For me its a 1. My success is that I've managed to always pay at least minimum payments on credit card, pay back by due dates and never go over my bank overdraft limit at any point. It was such a difficult thing to do to!

I fall into category 2, but before anyone accuses me of assuming the moral high-ground, let me state for the record that I also have a large interest free overdraft with the bank in question that I would not want to put in jeopardy. ;)

Fair enough, any other success stories from people that have managed the ridiculously tough task of managing their account properly?
  • I fall in to 2 as well! I forgot to pay my credit card one month and was charged the sum of £12 I put it down to my own foolishness and learnt from it and moved on! I did then change it to a direct debit for the full amount so there was no chance of wasting £12 of my hard earned money again!
  • The Boss you are getting really boring now, you talk about this all the time! Very good you manage not to break the terms. I suppose you don't ever break any laws or tell any white lies either. I've not claimed back any charges, but I am going. This forum is about consumer revenge and what better victory of consumer revenge is there than the satisfaction of being able to claim back hundred, and yes in some cases thousands of pounds worth of your own money. Unless of course, you work for a bank. But please, you are just making yourself sound really bitter and certainly going against the grain of what this site stands for.

You are judging people who you do not know, and have shown you do not care about their circumstances. There are people on this site who are struggling and more so with these charges, and while I am honoured to hear from someone who is perfect, please spare a thought for these people instead of constantly posting this type of selfish nonesense.

    That is all

    Well said.
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

Selfish nonsense? I find it selfish nonsense that my credit card interest rates have gone up because people are claiming back these fees left right and centre when if they didnt like the terms and conditions they shouldnt have opened the account

Anyway, I'm not going into your thread and ruining your success stories, so please dont do it in mine. If you lot can have one, so can we.

Oh come now, credit card rates have also gone up because (a) interest rates have gone up, and because (b) stoozing has become mainstream. Anyway, if you pay to borrow on a credit card you're already contributing massively to card issuers' profits, so it might be better to consider moving it to a more sensible form of debt?

Can I also point out that none of the dark predictions of a couple of months ago that we would all be paying bank charges have come to fruition?

So give it a rest, Boss, please.

Tim, since that's your assertion ... I'm going to ask some simple questions:

    1) Why - if CC rates always go up - have I been constantly taking out new credit cards in the last few years at lower and lower rates (e.g. starting nearer 20% and falling to 16, 12 and now 6?) Right up until the OFT ruling that is - and suddenly my first interest rate rise in ages happened, followed by the second.

    2) Why did the main blocks of interest rate rises happen ONLY after the OFT ruling? (check out the CC board if you don't believe me - see if you can find wholesale (multiple bank) increases before that time)

    3) Why have interest rates on overdrafts gone up too - and not just by the .25% increase from the BOE - if it's stoozing causing the problem and not reclaiming fees?

    4) Given stoozing is so mainstream as you say - how many newspapers have had 'how to stooz' on the front page of their money sections - given the Times who have, several times, and on the last occasion made it a front page of the money section - published articles on reclaiming fees?
Can I also point out that none of the dark predictions of a couple of months ago that we would all be paying bank charges have come to fruition?

So can I point out we have two heads of banks saying they WILL come to fruition ... give it time ... give it time.

Oh - PS - I fall into number 2 - paid a number of £14 fees in my time in debt.

Don't pay them any more because I look after my finances. Oddly, stopping the cycle of paying them was really simple - I did without some luxuries for a month. Suddenly I had the money.
