We stayed in a hotel on 1st May 2010 about half a mile from a function we were attending as we were unable to get a room at the location of the function.
Now the cost was £75 for a night at a hotel, which as we found out had seen better days.
We arrived late afternoon in a bit of a rush, so when we arrived we dumped our bags and got changed before leaving for our function. We got back in the wee small hours and as we checked out the next morning, we made a complaint about the state of the hotel and especially our room. We were told to write in and make a formal complaint which we did.
To put this into context our complaints were as follows.
Roof tiles missing in the cieling, interior glazing on the windows missing and a one inch gap around the bottom of the windows causing a gale to blow in from the sea, which was thankfully offset by the radiators which were stuck on fill even though turned off. The mirror cracked from top to bottom, dust over an inch thick around the bed (where the hoover reached when it last visited the room (not that month) wallpaper hanging off the walls and cobwebs which were huge in all corners and weighed down with dust, the bathroom had trip hazzard tiles all over and a selection of brown stains to turn your stomach, the list goes on, but if we were picky it would have been longer. In our opinion the room had not been cleaned in months, not days as was suggested. We took photographs of everything.
We wrote to complain and were initially accused of refusing to move room and not knowing about our booking system - which was an outright lie, and then were offered another night at their expense, but we did not wish to repeat the experience and asked for a refund as the room itself was not fit to be rented out when they boasted luxurious rooms in their advert.
We eventually agreed that we would agree to dispose of photographs and make no references to the hotel if they agreed to a full refund, and we signed a letter re this and send it in, and now have recieved a "Without Predjudice" basically telling us where to go unless we pay for a legal letter.
Where do we stand.... ?? help

Do you have a copy of the letter you signed?
I think this will have an impact upon the course of action you can now take."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
Why did you even bother? For £75 i would have just put it down to experience and then posted an accurate review plus photos on tripadvisor. Case closed.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Totally agree, sometimes revenge is more important than money. They are clearly concerned about their reputation.
Personally I would send them back a 'without prejudice' letter stating that as far as I was concerned I would put the stay down to a bad experience, but reserved my right to leave feedback on the appropriate sites.
By agreeing to dispose of the photographs for recompense the OP could open themselves to accusations of blackmail.0 -

It sounds like a sh1tty place for sure. But you're now asking for a refund for a room that you did manage to spend the whole night in. Did you ask to be moved at the time? Me too .............
Mind you, I did stay in a B&B once where the shower was that filthy and the drain that full of hairs that the shower wouldn't drain
After breakfast I spoke to the owner, told him that he should sack his cleaners and got some money off.
Can't have been the same place tho, this B&B didn't overlook the seaThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

That's really tickled me! Of the tens of thousands of B&Bs in the country I love the possibility that, purely by chance, it could have been the same place! It's like when you go to the States... Dave? Yeah, I know Dave, only he's not from London - he's from PRICKSVILLE USA!
