why don't you comprimise? where does your mum live- why does you mum have to go to London? lots of theatres have the sing along 'sound of music'- bascially they put on a stage show and the audience are encouraged to sing along with the songs- alot of people know some or if not most of the words- a bit like the abba or grease- you can travel to and from them in a day and ticket costs about £20 so you could do it for well under hundred quid. can it be mum's pressie (xmas or birthday etc- club together with other relatives etc)0

thanks lynz, i am still thinking about it but it will prob be a no, i agree she has to pay the debt back herself or she will never learn
....
tesuhoha i dunno, i may do that, i usually spend about £50 on mum and £20-£30 on my brother and sister (and oh) but this year i am going to give my brother about £50 cause he is going to america and he needs spending money so i will put money in his savings account, the prob is my brothers birthday is the 20th of december then my birthday is the 31st and my mum birthday is the 25th of jan, i usually have money saved but i used it to pay off my debt....
homer, i think she wanted to see this lady, she has the films etc etc and i dont think there is anywhere down here for a sing along performance....
thanks everyone for there imputit will prb be a no, but we will see...

deb thats why i want to do it, a few years ago there was dancing on ice down here and i got her tickets for her birthday £60 for 2 and mums oh paid for himself, and she really really enjoyed it, i just want to help her do the things she couldnt/hasnt...
Hi angel. Great idea for gift - another way of doing this is to google 'experience gifts' where you can have lunch and see a show (various ones listed) at different prices depending on the company. That way you don't have to worry about staying over. You can also search 'gift experiences for two'. Keep your eye in your local paper as they advertise when any theatre coach trips are going.
My brother's birthday last week and I was tempted to do this for him and his fiancee but instead the experience I bought him was a big cat visit in Hertfordshire followed by handfeeding meat to a tiger through a cage! You get photo, certificate, T-shirt etc plus his fiancee can be his special guest and they then go off and tour the pak/zoo and it's open-ended so you choose when you go within the next 9 months for this one. Mind you, when I saw the costs of some of the things, I felt like I'd been fed to the tigers!_pale_ I did tell him that it was his Christmas present too as well as his fiancee's birthday present (next month) as well.;)
Don't pay her debts off for her angel - the 1st thing she'll probably do is book into the Sheriton Hotel and have a week in the West End.;)
And what would be wrong ith you saying, 'Happy Birthday Mum. For your birthday present, I'm taking you to see...'

Hi PAP,I work in the theatre, and have to go A LOT for work - could I suggest you wait a little while? Maybe get the tix for a birthday instead? Right now the tix will be v v expensive because of the telly hype, but come January and feb, and then again in June, July, August, (When theatres generally have to struggle for business), there'll be lots of cheap offers coming out. If that isn't an option, sign up to the free offers newsletter email at https://www.whatsonstage.com - if there are any offers pre xmas, that's where they'll be advertised first as they are linked to ambassadors theatres and Mr lloyd Webber. I'll keep my ear to the ground as sometimes I get sent freebies (if I do you can have them - Sound of Music isn't really my bag!)- and let you know if I get any tips on cheaper seats. Hope that helps hon.xxxOfficial Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! Debt Now:

Sorry if I'm a mug for believing the newspapers, but one of them (Mail, I think) said that Andrew Lloyd Webber had already picked another actress to be Maria, and that the winner of 'how do you solve a problem...' would only be on stage on that girl's days off, so it's worth checking that Connie is going to be playing Maria on the day your Mum goes to see it. It's a lot of money to fork out if 'her girl' wasn't playing that day - especially for a DFW.0

mirtos, i thought of that, i bet next year no one will want to go... maybe i could get them for her birthday mmm
myrn part of thats true, yes they have casted someone else but that for when marie (ie connie) is unwell/unable to do the performance, you dont know and cant check to see who is playing each night and also certain ticket offices will not refund if your chossen 'maria' isnt playing, this is one of the big things that is putting me off
i may get them for her birthday, but i am taking her to weymouth next month for a week so i think i have decided against itfor now anyway

you are taking her to weymouth for a week?
Sugar, I fear you are overgenerous xx:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...

I've heard this too..... check out http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds36359.html
Make sure you double check before buying the tickets that Connie is going to actually be on stage!:eek:0 -

To be honest the theatre won't be able to guarantee that Connie will be performing on any day - after all what would happen if they did and then she was sick? They would be faced with 100's of claims that people only bought the tickets becuase they wanted to see her.
I know how you feel - there's a trip to see Evita with an overnight stay and it's £119 - I would love to arrange it for my mum but baring a major change in our fortunes I can't justify it and I know mum would hate for me to spend that amount of money on her when we have the debts we have.
If your mum doesn't appreciate what ever you get her then i wouldn't stress over it2014 Target;
