Browntoa, I've noticed quite a few of these threads suddenly reappearing. Where on earth do people find them? And why don't the posters realise the old dates on them? Weird.

I was just thinking the same thing. 2nd old thread in a few days. I do recall years ago doing a google search for something and it brought up an older thread on MSE which was way out of date.

ETA I actually replied to the unused body lotion one the day before yesterday. Someone pointed out the thread was 11 years old! My suggestion of donating it to a foodbank wouldn't have worked , well beyond it's use by date!

I often look at old threads from "back in the day".  They contain valuable information and hints and, by bumping them, newer members can share.

Lets face it, a tissue in the wash or unused body lotion is something all of us can relate to and is hardly time sensitive - does it really matter when the thread was started? I'm not having a pop at either of you BTW - just making a general observation.

I have only recently returned to this forum after a gap of quite a few years (I used to be on here virtually every day!) and have found it to be nothing like it used to be.  Back then you could log on and find dozens of recipes, tips and moneysaving ideas posted every single day.  Now, sadly, they are few and far between, so the occasional "bumped" old thread can still produce some gems.

I think the issue with necroposting is that most people don't look at the date of the original post and give advice on that.

There's not really a lot of point (imho) giving advice on using up a joint of beef 10 years after the original poster asked for advice.
It's a waste of people's time - as Pollyanna_26 points out re the body lotion thread.
I do agree that some posts - although not all - are still relevant years down the line. This happens to be one of them.
I still think it's worth pointing out that a post is x years old and let the following posters decide whether to respond or not.
