Help! Bad throat and possible telephone interview!

Most places have become increasingly fussy about sickness records, and all the applications I've completed over the last few years, have asked for 'number of days off work sick in the last year'.
For example, many NHS Trusts conduct sickness review interviews if you hit 4% or more (about 8 days in one year), and that includes staff working on wards, and exposed to infection etc.
The many have been hurt by the actions of a few malingerers, again.
ive always seen questions about number of days off sick on app forms, its hardly new0 -

Yep, but employers are far less tolerant of it than they used to be.
10 years ago 10 days or less was seen as reasonable, these days 10 days may well exclude you from the short list (certainly does in my profession).[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

Perhaps, but that's not the point. All she had to do was call them up - cough or no cough - to say 'sorry, can't talk now, but thanks for contacting me, I'm delighted you want to talk, and I'll return your call when I'm not spluttering down the line at you, do you mind?"
Instead, she came on here and engaged in well-meaning tittle tattle about cough lozenges and how bad she feels and what should she do, without bothering to contact the employer who is probably annoyed his/her call wasn't even acknowledged.
What sort of message does that send about enthusiasm. An employer will forgive a cough on the phone; they will NOT forgive unresponsiveness.
It's interesting, by the way, that she was going to call the following morning. We've had no update. I wonder why. . . . .0 -

i understand what your saying but surely if someone explains they have a cough or a sore throat and so if they sound croaky or cough then the other person is pre warned plus surely as the person tells the interviewer then it cant do any harm as they could say can you start when your better0 -
You had no response because my internet was off for a while and excuse me for not feeling like i have to explain myself to such a small minded thing.
Thanks to all of you who did respond with actual ideas and who do not want to just enforce negativity - to let you all know and maybe so certain people can nit pick a little more if they so wish.
I did call the next day and apologised for not calling back etc - i could at least get words out without a coughing fit, they told me about the position and it was much less hours than was advertised it did have a possibility of them expanding working hours but it was not a job local to myself and i would have to spend roughly £60 a week getting to work so unfortunately is not something i was able to take.
And yes i do have a sense of urgency i was filling in job applications when i was ill and on the day i couldn't talk for the coughing fits not that i have to explain myself as i know that i try and what shallow, self indulgent egotistical people think of me doesn't matter.
Thank you again to those who read the full post before judging and thank you for all advice offered whether it was offered with good intentions or bad is irrelevant to me.
