I've had my LBM and now it's time to sort it out once and for all

  • Thank you for poting HWG & Chev, really helps to have some encouragement.

I am feeling very very much like a failure at the moment, but I know once the dust settles and I write the letter to my nan I will feel like a huge weight has been lifted. I can make the same total repayments as before to the various places and be paying the whole lot of the debt rather than ££££££ in interest. It was the right thing to do, she told me off for not asking and worrying myself with it. I couldn't sleep last night because of it and that's not good.

    Thanks for listening:)
  • I'm having a very down day today. I think it's fianlly admitting to someone 'real' that we need help. I hate the feeling of not being able to do it myself. I'm fiercly independant normally. I feel I lost control when we moved (5 years ago in July) and I am only just starting to get it back. I have sorted as much as I can bill wise and income wise. With 2 dc aged nearly 4 and nearly 7 there's no more I could do to earn more. Not now, but when ds starts school I can and I will.

I feel like I have had a 2nd LBM this week.

I now want to pay off the cc and never have another one with a big limit again. The only reason I say big limit rather than one at all is that we have our own house and to have a back up is necessary atm. I want to be able to build a proper back up for ourselves so then I can wave goodbye to cc altogether but that is years off :(

Joining MSE has made me think about buying stuff, or rather not buying stuff. I must confess I did order a few bits in the next sale. I have been longing for a new pair of boots for a long while and they had some in my size. I have them sat in my front room (tags still on) but i'm thinking I should return them. I feel like if I wore them i'd be like Phoebe in Friends when she got that money from her bank that wasn't hers and she says if she bought shoes with the money everytime she wore them she'd hear 'not not mine, not not mine' as she walked along. They're not mine are they because everything we buy at the moment is on credit. None of it is our money.

I think we can safely say the lightbulb is on.

That was lovely of your Nan to lend you the money, and it will help clear things so much quicker. You should not feel like a failure, and your determination will help you get there!

Hope you feel better soon x

  • Thank you Jwil:)

I've been to see my nan today and she was absolutely wonderful. She has been worried about me ever since I called her and actually said she will be able to sleep now she knows I am ok.

I hadn't realised how much everything was on top of me, esp the debt.

She has given me £4,000 and says I only need to repay £3,000 as she has given my bro, sis and cousins some money and I am to have the same. So I am going to work out a repayment plan later.

I have also had dh's new cc through this morning, I can set all that up online so I will do that later too.

I also had ds' primary school place letter through today and he hs got the school we wanted (where dd goes so we knew it would probably be ok)

    So that's my 3 things:j

My nan:A also gave me £200:eek: to spend on a few nights away in the summer.

I have to admit I cried alot this morning. I can't thank her enough. infact thank you doesn't even cover it really.

I'm off to plug numbers into a spreadsheet!!

Thanks jwil, yes very much looking up

I have crunched my numbers, and without leaving us brassic I have a plan!

I am going to pay off a total amount to the debt of £275 a month, slightly more than we have been paying but not unrealistic.

If I get my increased hours at work in Oct I will raise this to £475, which will leave us £100 better off a month (Ie increased pay will be £300ish a month, pay extra £200 off the debt) as I just want to be able to have a little more each month. Plus there is the o/d to consider!

So this means if this does happen then the final debt repayment will be in JUNE 2012. I will aim for the o/d to be paid back by then too, which if my spreadsheet is right it could be if we only spend what we spend now on groceries/entertainment etc.

As we know plans can go astray but I will try my best to stick to it! I'm also going to start to ebay a few bits and pieces. I have some nice dresses that I won't wear again so they can go on there. Even if they raise a few pounds only that's better than being sat in my wardrobe.

ooo and I forgot earlier, but I got on the scales this morning and I am another 2lbs lighter:j my jeans and trousers do feel looser so thats FAB! 10lbs to go to my target of 1 stone off:T

I've just checked and dh's card is 0% until 1/9/12's statement so I have a couple of months extra on my June 2012 target if I need them.

Wow lots happeming with you looks like our DFD will be the same, I was aiming for Dec 2011 but like you say plans dont always go the way you want so I have extended it to June 2012.
Your nan is a star and now you have opened up about it hopefully you will be able to sleep better.
    Have a good weekend

  • So today was going to be my transfer day, transfering the interest accruing cc to the 0% ones, but somehow I have mislaid one of the internet log in details, no clue where they are. Somewhere safe naturally:D I'll keep looking, it's my cc so only a £750 limit anyway but still I wanted to get nan's chq banked this week so that I can get the whole cc balance gone before the payment date. hmm it has to be in the house somewhere!

In other news, still feeling down but Mother's day was yesterday and although we had fun my thoughts always turn to my mum, which they did last night. and i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything in life today.

I just need to do the necessary things and make lists of the other bits so I can get it out of my head. It feels all jumbled. If I write things down it seems to unload my head IYSWIM.

Feeling tired too after a day out at the seaside yesterday.

Ho hum. pottle along as usual, sure i'll be fine
  • Hello diary!

I have now transferred all but £1k onto 0%, i'm keeping £250 back fron Nan's chq until Friday, the car is going in for an MOT and I just want to make sure I have the money for it. Hopefully it'll be fine and I will then be able to trf the remaining £250. Also I still can't find the log-in details for my cc. I am going to seach everywhere today and if I can't find it will re-ask for it. so annoying because i'm sure I wouldn't have thrown it out. I'll keep my fingers crossed I find it!

It's half term for the next 2 weeks but i'm not planning on spending much, apart from Wed, which is ds' bday and I have -planned a trip to the cinema, but my Dad (bless him) has sent some money for that. Oh and I suppose Friday might cost with the car but that's not my fault:rotfl:

Right, off to get the small people to help with operation sort the mess/find the bit of paper. Could take a while in my house, paper EVERYWHERE!
