Cases that cover the whole phone are the best, I got a good case from the 02 store which was about £15.00 but it has lasted ages and I even dropped my phone down the stairs and it protected it, believe it or not!
It's a clear case which looks really smart, it bulks the phone up a bit but it looks good and does what it's meant to, and it improves the signal too, i recommend the one I have.

if you call apple and say you are having problems with your reception you can get a free 'bumper' case.
you can then use a 'skin' to protect the back
whatever you choose you have to be careful it doest impede the flash of the camera as a lot of cases produce a lot of glare in photos.0
