Advice on toddler toothpaste please (Toothsmith?)

To anyone with toddlers:
do NOT buy them strawberry toothpaste. My ex-MIL did this to DD1 and now I have real issues getting her to brush her teeth as all the 'proper toothpaste' is mint! Gaaah that woman has a lot to answer for :wall:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

You don't need to wait till the first tooth has erupted to start brushing. As soon as baby can hold head up then they can be given a toothbrush with supervision. Helps them get used to the holding of brush and texture. Toothpaste can be given as it can enter the gums systemically and the flouride can strengthen the teeth that are waiting to come out.0 -
Well that's our kiddy toothpaste not getting replaced with the same when it runs out
Thanks to the OP and the posters who gave the info:T

Sorry, I just have to know why toothbrushes are going back in the bus ...
Well if it's anything like our nursery, they have a bus shaped toothbrush holder with named spaces for a dozen childrens toothbrushes :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. You would have to ingest mountains of flouride for there to be any effect. Like everything, the guidelines are there to assist. It would be foolish to think that even us as adults don't swallow some toothpaste.
Slight correction. You'd have to eat tons of toothpaste to have a bad effect - as weight-wise there's not very much fluoride in toothpaste.
You don't have to ingest very much raw fluoride at all to harm yourself. It is very poisonous! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Louise is correct. In Scotland they have a programme where kids in nursery and up to Primary 2 brush their teeth daily in the classroom. It's part of a huge programme to try and improve kiddies teeth from a young age (it's my job:D) and the toothbrushes are kept on a 'Brush Bus'. Each kiddie has their own brush which is coloured and has a fun symbol and one they have finished brushing the brushes go back in the bus. Keeps them hygenic and it's amazing how quick the kids learn their colour and picture:A0 -
Thanks again to everyone and their replies including Toothsmith.
Delain, that is one reason i NEVER bought flavoured toothpaste, as I knew I would have a battle getting them off bubble gum toothpaste onto a family minty one. If they don't know about it, its not a battle later.
Besides I would rather a minty paste than a flavoured fruity one, but then i'm programmed that way i guess.
Toothsmith, Toothfairy, my son is extremely happy about his new aquafresh btw.
THANK YOU!0 -
