Just thought I would post the deal I have been given for anyone in a similar position:

I am new to Sky and have managed to get bb unlimited, talk basic and the full tv package without sports or movies for £30 per month.

This includes free hd+ box, free wireless router, free anytime+ and free installation.

This may not be the ultimate in deals but it saves £10 a month on my virgin bill and gives me loads more channels so I'm pleased

Recently moved into a 2nd floor flat, however my freeview TV will pick up very few channels (no itv or channel 4 programmes) so I'm looking into getting sky or virgin.

I have never had sky or virgin, or any other similar company before, so just looking for some recommendations and maybe a general price guide?

The previous tennants had virgin in the flat.

    Thanks in advance.

Does that include the HD subscription, matthewr?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get *just* Sky Sports HD channels (and maybe ESPN HD)?

Officially it isn't and I kinda doubt you can get such a deal as a new customer, but has anyone haggled just to keep these channels as an existing Sky customer? What about as just an existing Freesat From Sky customer?

I was considering getting BT Vision because I have BT Infinity and £31pm for Sky Sports 1 & 2 plus ESPN is quite a good deal. However, they don't offer any HD channels (even the Freeview HD ones!) which sucks.

After ignoring the letter last month offering us 50% discount for a year to go back (we were disconnected on 15th January) we today got an offer of 75% off if we take the HD pack and at least movies, sports or both. Means £19 per month for all mixes plus movies and £23/month with sports on top. Also they have offered £50 credit on our bill.

Still not guaranteed we will go back though as tbh we don't really miss it and have made alternative arrangements for programme recording with play TV on the PS3.
Hark at you going all strict :D

VLT - no I didn't phone virgin first but I called them last night and told them i wanted to cancel and they upped my BB to 30meg fibre optic, kept my phone as it is cos I hardly use it and changed my TV to the XL package which includes ESPN all for the price I currently pay (£40).

So I'm sticking with VM. Had a bit of a long winded phone call back to sky to cancel but I think it was worth it.

Gratis - no it wasn't with HD included. I have one of the first flat screen TVs that came out so it doesn't have HD.

  • Just rang sky and saved £20+ a month.......
I have the works from them (TV / BB / Phone) stated I wanted a better deal and was prepared to go elsewhere is Sky could not offer
    I was offered 2 options
    1. 25% off my TV
    2. Free line rental for 9 months and broadband down to £2 per month

Amazing what you can get - I took option 2 as it saved me more.

A big thanks to those before me for the feedback - would not have rang without reading others positive result.
  • Just thought I'd post the offer I received from Sky today. I phoned them a few weeks ago and cancelled my whole TV package as I had decided that since getting rid of sports and movies a while ago to save costs that the £20 a month for the normal TV package was not worth it anymore.

I also decided that I don't use my home phone and the internet is less than a 250kb/s so this was pointless me keeping as I use my phone now for the home internet and have a mifi device also.

Was quite willing to let Sky cancel everything so was happy to wait and see if they offered me anything and if they didn't I was not too bothered.

Got a phone call from Sky this morning and after talking about why I was cancelling I ended up getting offered the complete channel package with sports and movies for £26/month, and I would not be tied in to a new 12 month contract so could cancel at anytime and if I still felt this was too much I could phone up and see what they could do for me.

So I am now paying an additional £6/month to receive all the sports and movies and can cancel at anytime. Think this is the first time I am actually happy with Sky so will give them a few more months of my service and then see if they want to offer me anything else in a few months.

Seems different customers are getting different offers. Hubby phoned as he likes his sports but decided to cancel for the summer We pay £74.50 including BB but without phone line. He only got £45.50 in May and £55.50 for the next three months and he keeps his sports channel and ESPN. I told him he shoul ditch sky and go wih virgin. The deal is not that great compared to what others have been offered. Thanks
