  • Big few days, mainly furniture construction and what not. Very tiring! It's funny how it takes hours to make some furniture which promises to be just a few in assembly. Anyway it's taken 4 days to do. Am supposed to be planning but am watching tintin on tv instead. Marvelous.

  • Bought some TRIPP luggage - v. good deal in Debenhams and excellent reviews. We ended up buying the full range of 4 bags! One "lady" bag, one cabin bag, 1 medium and 1 large. We couldn't decide and it's now all the same colour and will all get used. An unexpected purchase but I think it'll be a good deal long term.
    Debenhams - They say the small lady bag was £80 down to £20 (or 19.99)

  • My toothbrush came through today, it actually looks very good!
    it's not a scientific test, but when you use it the first time, and your teeth feel tingly white, I figure (for free) it's a good deal.

  • Spent £50 off other mortgage (one is all clear, the other is a BTL) - going down a little, about £100 paid off this month. We've had a very expensive summer on essential stuff and it's now a case of battening down the hatches, living well within our means (which we have always aimed to do) and enjoy the family growing up - whilst keeping work/life balance in check. That's the real challenge I think :)

  • Annoyingly, the £50 was lost (it was sent from my bank to the mortgage holding bank) as the reference and code were the wrong way round. So I waited and yesterday finally rang them up. They said oh yes, we can see it sitting in the "unclaimed cash (or words to that effect)" area, we'll move it into your account straight away.

    Also paid off another £500. The interest is now £1 less than when we started per month. Slowly but surely chipping away at it.

  • Nothing else to report - for the first time ever we've actually started recording exactly what we spend on food, it is more than we thought but it's reasonable as we love our food. I think it'll be about 400 a month, which can be cheaper. Not exciting to update but an update never the less.

    Once I've done our energy tariff I was thinking food tracking might be the next thing. Are you including any alcohol, cleaning products etc in this or is it just food?

  • Everything that we buy at the supermarket! But it's a bit too vague, in that we spent a load this month on re-stocking our freezer of meat;

    But other things like dishwasher tablets and washing powder are irregular purchases, however by doing this will give me an example of how much we spend. So a great qn Yorkielass.

    Fortunately we don't spend a lot on alcohol, so that's included as we don't really had a social life (well we do, but we go out to friends for meals and reciprocate a lot) - so that's included in our budget too.

  • Got given a mountain of potatoes (home grown) and apples (home picked) tonight from our family. So it's going to be a rather apple crumble in the next few days me thinks. Hurray for free food!

  • And I'm approaching my first £100 profit from Zopa. It's taken longer than I thought, but it's much more than I would get from a normal bank (which currently gives me a few pence for what I have in there gathering dust).
