Disagree in some respects, seen plenty of well cared for cars HGF, ultimately the K-Series is a good engine on paper, but crap in reality. It is a rubbish design, no matter how you try and dress it up, in my opinion.

    Agreed 100%.;)

Puma's are lush car's, specially the fully kitted ones (Alloys, full leather, digital aircon and traction) but I have seen every few of the 'fully loaded' ones about.

My Mondeo is fully loaded, hence one of the reasons I bought it, loads and loads of standard Mondeos and Puma's about, it's the fully loaded ones that better for comfort and a lot of use.

Hope you manage to find a car you like, if your anything like me you'll be buying 4-5 car's, selling them within a week till you find one you like! LOL

Always struck me as an odd engine, too advanced for it's day in some respects, but then relied on the "ladder construction" and wet liners binned by every other car maker in the 1960's for being "a bit too old fashioned."

Add on an illogical cooling system, negligable engine build quality and tollarances, silly thermostat placement and massive localised heating problems.... Et voila, a steaming crock of engine that'll empty your wallet as quickly as you can say hylomar.

    Regards,
    Andy

Get a Ford DuraTec 2.5 V6 engine, seen some with 300.000+ miles on them and still pulling like trains, long as you changed the oil and filter correctly and often the engine will last forever.

Best engine I have ever had in any car, even better than the engine is the Volvo S80!

TDMMDI - I've just bought a Mazda MX5 and traded in my Puma, picking it up tomorrow - where in the country are you?

I'm in Teesside & there ain't many Mazda MX5s for sale. I've looked upto 50 miles away. Many of the ones for sale are out of my price range or they ain't brilliant spec. Seems there's better bargains to be had down south.

Have seen a local Mazda MX5 Monaco model, but I gather these are a basic model & I'm not sure whether the seller is asking abit over the odds for it. He's asking over £2000 for it. Does look in immaculate condition, but I don't want to be ripped off.

the ford cougar 2.0ltr is a decent car, bit bigger than a puma. you would likely get more selling your car privately stating the work needing doing as pumas tend to be enthusiasts car. Be careful when buying soft top cars, as hoods are notorious for leaking and expensive in labour to sort. And be careful alot of imported MX5s can be a problem to insure and are worth less.
  • I've checked out the info on imports & will defo be asking about it if & when I go looking at cars. The one I've seen isn't an import (apparently).

What are soft tops like to drive in the winter?

ive found them okay to drive in the winter, noisy when it rains thought! Although is was a 80 ford escort cabriolet! If im not mistaken with the mx5 you can buy a hard top that you can use during the winter months.
  • Has anyone ever haggled on a buy it now car off ebay?
