It's looking iffy for Connaught to say the least.

I didn't buy today! Wasn't up in time to catch the climb through the day as I've been working late so been sleeping through the mornings. Gutted. Might see what happens later today, yield is still looking tempting as I'd be looking for income too.

    Decisions, decisions...
I assume although you started off talking about Connaught you are referrng to HMV in the rest of your post as Connaught did not go up and is no longer available to buy!

If so it is true HMV have risen to about 61p. That is a little above their recent average but the same price as I paid for them. Still good value I think though you may want to see if they drift down a little first.

Talking of HMV I just noticed this report saying:
Tim Waterstone, founder of British book retailer Waterstone's, is evaluating the possibility to place an over GBP100m (USD155m/EUR120m) bid to buy out the chain from music, video and book retailer HMV (LON:HMV), The Observer reported yesterday citing informed sources.
That's probably why the price rose recently

My shares profile is quite high risk and very concentrated

    Gulf Keystone
    AMINEX
    BP
    Rockhopper Exploration

Yes... I love oil and gas shares.

Rockhopper and Gulf Keystone have done me well, bought each at 49p and 32p respectively.... BP at £3.01 tucked into the ISA ;)

I also hold Workspace Group, and Greggs in my ISA

Then a couple of funds, Jupiter Financial Opps, HSBC ALL Share Tracker Fund.

I'd say my appetite was for high risk and volatile.

I've seen Gulf Keystone hit me with a paper loss of 40% on the second batch I bought at £1. Now they have recovered again.

    Patience favours the brave.....

Lol you are not reading my Portfolio are you?

I'm in AEX, RKH, DES, GKP and SXX. Also waiting to get in on XEL in the new few weeks!

Love the Oil and Gas AIM shares! Hope RKH move to FTSE soon after positive SL flow tests!

I looked at RKH but they are gona need alot more funding for expoloration and already found a number of wells which have failed to give anything significant.

However have been in sxx for a while and excitied abt the last week, have basically managed to claw back some losses but feel this time next yr the sp will be 40p+.

Whats the yield on hmv, better than vodaphone?

    About double - I hold both :D

HMV have had a stonking day today, up 8% to close at 66.5p. Partly the Tim Waterstone rumour, and partly because figures are being announced tomorrow, so might be rising on expectations (or insider knowledge?) of good results. Or the shorters getting scared witless as ex-divi day heaves over the horizon. Who can tell? Anyway, tomorrow will be interesting ;)

BP are also beginning to crawl out of the pit, but I still expect a bit more volatility yet.

VOD keeps bouncing off 160p, and I wouldn't object to a breakout there...

So quite happy here at Macs Towers, the three main holdings are doing the portfolio proud. The one fly in the ointment for me right now is PVCS (PV Crystalox Solar - wafer manufacturer) which is dragging its feet at a resounding 17% down from my entry price. But even with that the overall portfolio is up 15%, and some of those divis will be paying out soon...

  • Not into that sector at all, I mean Voda never move at all!!!

RKH had ONE dry well (not a number!) and did not even flinch on the poor results, they have just raised another 30M in form of a placement which funded the dry Ernest well and will now flow test SL in a series of sidetracks and flow tests. This should raise the SP if it flows well and will hit somewhere like 4 pounds by mid next month.

SXX looks like a good mid to long term investment but I might take all my RKH and plough it into XEL as they look to the next RKH.
  • I have never brought or purchased a risky share in any company. Sadly my shares do seem to go wrong and turn out to be mistakes.

Big companies hardly ever make big % moves (BP and the banks being notable exceptions). If you buy big companies it is for the regular income the dividends give which in the case of Vodafone is fairly good.

Sounds like they were risky and you didn't know it!
  • Oh, well, the roller-coaster ride continues - after yesterday's stonking 8% climb, HMV have had a stinking 10% fall today :( But PVCS retraced a bit :)

Was a little surprised it was a 10% dip. I haven't had time to read it all properly as I've just got back from work, but from glancing over the news I didn't think anythign was said at the AGM that wasn't expected.

I guess I'd assumed news about a poor first quarter/half would be priced in... Serves me right for assuming the market was rational! At least I'm still solvent, and I'm not down too much, still looking forward to a good dividend.

It seems to me that the results were as expected and apparantly Waterstone's was doing better, so I'm still happy to be in.
