I need advice/pregnancy experiences, symptoms etc

  • IMO you could well be pregnant. Generally your GP takes what the tests say as fact but obviously you can get a negative when you are pregnant. Why don't you buy a pack of 5 test strips from ebay. They cost about £2 for a pack of 5 inc P&P and I found them as reliable as the more expensive tests.

Crikey, you're exactly describing all my symptoms of early pregnancy...part of me is really hoping you are becuase I pray to God that there isn't anything else which can cause all this...being preggers was bad enough:p & I got a fantastic prize at the end of that!

The GP urine tests are exactly the same as you can buy yourself, no more sensitive & only work by detecting the LH hormone which your body starts producing between 10 & 21 days after you conceive (so depending on your timing it is perfectly possible that you are pregnant but not producing the hormone yet). You could ask your GP for a blood test which will show up much more quickly but they may just tell you to take another home test in a week if they don't want to inccur the cost for something which will show up eventually anyway. Of course it is worth insisitng in case you aren't pregnant & you can get a head start on ruling out anything else.

Hope everything gets resolved one way or another to give you peace of mind soon.;)
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
  • You certainly have a lot of the symptoms of early pregnancy so it is possible! Not sure if :j or  is appropriate!

Pregnancy tests can be quite sensitive - I personally would never buy them from ebay (& I do buy a lot via them) as you cannot guarantee how they have been stored (higher/lower than average temperature etc.) or where they have come from. Haven't checked out the kits on ebay myself, but I am a pharmacist & know there are a lot of counterfeit products out there.

I would recommend (like other posters) going to your GP/FPC & requesting a test, although in my area (Wilts) they expect you to buy tests from a local pharmacy. If you do, you can be assured of their quality. The "Clearblue" brand have an excellent help line & can answer any questions - their 'phone number is on every Clearblue test & probably on the web, somewhere. Independent pharmacies often have the best prices, but you could ring round all your local pharmacies.

Certain medications can affect the results, - if you are taking anything check with your pharmacist/GP.

One other point - it is recommended that all women trying to conceive/are in early stages of pregnancy take folic acid 400 micrograms daily, which you can buy at any pharmacy - ask for their own "brand" as it will be the cheapest, but check with your own GP FIRST that you can take it. It suits most peole, BUT PLEASE CHECK FIRST BEFORE YOU START TAKING IT! It is given to help prevent any neural tube defects such as spina bifida etc.

I hope you get the result that you want
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • Tests can show negative in very early pregnancy. I'd leave it a couple of weeks and take it again.

(AFAIK, you can get fake negatives but not fake positives).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I hate waiting. I'm so impatient that its actually a problem :rotfl:.

I woke up this morning feeling so sick and now i have this 'heavy' feeling in my stomach but the sickness comes in waves.

My moods are being funny too, last night i was as happy as anything and the next i was feeling really down and kept sort of drifting into space.

Not long now till i get to make an appointment with the doctor. I will let you all know the outcome. And i'll ask about the folic acid :)

    Thanks everyone
  • All the symptoms you describe can be due to hormone fluctations (not necessarily pregnancy) or plain and simple anxiety!
If you're convincing yourself that you're pregnant, the chances are that symptoms will 'materialise' or seem exaggerated.
The discharge, as long as it's clear and has no odour, could be due to ovulation.
Tying everything together, it may be that your hormones have jumped out of sync (and it does happen, especially if you've used the pill before) and that you're ovulating.

    I get this EVERY month!

If you've taken a test and you're a week late, the chances are that you're not pregnant. Todays modern tests are very accurate.

What IS worrying is that rather than planning for a baby, you're taking a 'if it happens it happens' view. Maybe it's wise to have a really good think about things and prepare your body properly.
A baby is a life-changing event and should never be taken lightly. Children are a nice idea but you need to have the resources, money, space, time and support to bring them up.

I'm not anxious about anything. I probably would've if i had of realised that i was due earlier then i thought i was. I'm not convincing myself that i am, i'm a pessimist and probably wouldn't belive it if a test came back positive. I have used the pill before but i have been off it nearly 5 years now.

'if it happens then it happens' what i meant was we had spoken about children and decided that we would like one.

I know all that about children. I work with children and therefore know all the good and bad points. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't something we spoke about lightly.
  • Hope everything works out well for you OP. As for the discharge, I get that "waterfalls" feeling every month when I ovulate (hence why the natural family planning method works so well for me) so it could just be your body's hormones going a bit mental. Delayed ovulation can happen when you're stressed, tired or have even a common cold!!

Good luck with everything though xx

  • I went to the doctor this morning and he said we can't go by the hpt due to family history. I have to go for a blood test next week (as i want to wait a little longer just to make sure.)

Theres still no sign on menstruating and when i woke at 8 this morning i felt very sick till about 9. Now i still feel a bit queazy and very sluggish.

I suppose its just a waiting game now.

    Thanks for all your responses.
