I hate the knee-jerk, "!!!!!! is bad for women and makes men into misogynistic bastages therefore I am against it," response. Some !!!!!! is exploitative, some is not. Some men are misogynistic bastages and !!!!!! might support their bastagery - but I highly doubt seeing people having bizarrely posed awkward sex is going to cause a lightbulb moment "OMG all women are only sex objects!!!!!!!!!"

I also hate the, "oh no, *I* never watch !!!!!!, I think it's disgusting," by women who spend fortunes on Mills and Boon and those erotic fiction books you can buy in Ann Summers, or who settle in to watch Lady Chatterley with Sean Bean because it's an adaptation of classic literature.

    GAHHHHH.

People like stuff that makes their naughty bits tingle. Why judge? The rise in the amount of amateur !!!!!! available online shows that not all women are doing it because they're being exploited, and since they're participating and enjoying it they're obviously not against pornography in general. So long as nobody's being coerced then I don't see the harm.

There's a huge market for pornography in Germany, which is where I live. Sex crimes are almost unheard of: someone was raped in the city a couple of weeks ago and it's still in the headlines. Is there a city of a million people where that would happen in the UK? The government makes money from taxing pornographic film distributors and sex shops, everyone who wants to gets their rocks off in a safe environment, and everyone walks about with a smile on their face and a well-run transport system paid for by the profits from taxation.

I can see how this can be a double money saving thing.

1, why pay for it when you can find it for free.

2, why spend money on expensive dating when you can sit at home with some !!!!!! for free.

  • I think we are just going to have to agree to differ on this. My opinions about !!!!!! have no doubt been coloured by my recent experiences. I cannot help this but, I can see that some of you view things differently.

Since this debate began, I have been contacted directly by a number of people (both !!!!!! addicts and partners of !!!!!! addicts)
who do see !!!!!! addiction as a problem because this is exactly what it is for them (and me) - a big problem.

However, the fact that we are even having this debate on this particular website, is more than a bit surreal - a fact that I see has been picked up on some of the other forums. In spite of the fact that I don't think !!!!!! addiction is a laughing matter at the moment, I did like the comment from one of the other members "Tesco Value !!!!!!".

It does seem strange that on a website dedicated to helping people manage their personal finances better, that we are even discussing this at all!

Addiction to anything is a problem. It doesn't mean that the thing to which someone is addicted is inherently bad.

I lived with a girl who would get seriously unpleasant if she ran out of Ryvita. I'm not calling for a blanket ban on nasty-tasting diet bread substitutes, because it's not the Ryvita's fault someone couldn't get through the day without it.

Well, it is in the context of folks paying for !!!!!! - that seems pretty applicable to me (it isn't like anyone official has mentioned the moral issues (they truly are irrelevant to the site as you note) - that has been brought up by various posters),
