This is purely my opinion but in my eyes tend to compete more directly with Sainsburys rather than Netto focussing on value, selection and quality (Tesco Finest etc) rather than just being cheap.
This would mean by definition they will be more expensive than other places. But that's just my musing.
Ok, you have a point in that they are not going for absolute cheapest, but then again they are hardly M&S, or even Co-op.0 -

Tesco finest is better than anything Co-op sell (I used to work in co-op!) but certainly agree about M&S / Waitrose. But the selection that Tesco offers is wider than M&S - who only sell their own stuff. Swings and roundabouts in a very complex marketplace.
It does however, render your complaint to Sir Terry largely redundant. But if it makes you feel better then fill your boots and let us know if / when he responds.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

It might be easier just to become unimaginably wealthy and buy out tesco myself, then run my way (which would probably be into the ground but there you go...) :P0 -

The Tesco range is still wider but M&S have been selling branded food for some time.0 -
With respect, how do you think Tesco can afford to sell other stuff so cheaply? Once they have got you in the store on the promise of cheap x or y, you end up buying other things (somestimes at more than the going rate) and that makes up for the cheapness of the other things.
Not just Tesco either, it is a standard business model really.0 -
