8MM Tape to DVD via PC

Thankyou for the kind offer but i have to admit, i enjoy the challenge of trying to these things myself.:D
My time in windows was spent with Vegas (I think there is a 'cheap' version of it around these days that supports capture and import). Failing that will MovieMaker not let you select the source and record it in? Basically just play the tape back whilst recording from your card is the analogue real-time method.
Does the card have any bundled capture software at all you can make use of?0 -
Without knowing the software you intend to use, and how that input / sound combination presents itself to said software, it's hard to give an exact answer.

Hi. i went to the site and downloaded the latest software for Win 7. It works a treat. I have the picture which looks quite good, but i don't have audio..?0 -

When I last had a card anything like that in a Windows box (years ago), I recall the audio input from the video capture card required a bridge link into the existing sound card - this was done with the old 'cd' type connectors on the sound card board.
Personally rather than faff about, if it were me, I would put the sound jack into the normal sound card line in, set the mixer applet accordingly and hope the software would allow me to use the mixer 'output' as the input to MovieMaker/Whatever.0 -
Found my old notebook (I'm a swine for writing stuff down, oink oink). The issue I had with the various methods I tried prior to buying my Canopus was mostly sound sync being off - but machines have moved on since that. Please let us know how you get on.0

Hi..
It seems great so far with the exception of the audio. For some reason it is only coming out of one speaker.
This is the adaptor i brought, i am guessing it's the wrong one.

Can you recommend one where i can get the audio through both speakers..?0 -

You appear to be feeding a mono signal into a stereo adaptor. You'll probably need to split it into a Y then feed it into your adaptor using something like {QN25C} this:

Or, set your software to a Mono input if that is possible?0 -

Hi.
After a bit of research i have found the manual. The Audio out has a (L) by it so i am guessing it's mono left side only..?.. I am guessing you cant get an adaptor coming out to make it stereo..? I.e out put from both speakers. The only thing i can think of doing if this is the case is maybe ripping the audio from the .ts file and converting that to a stereo output and then re-syncing that back into the file.
Do you know of any software that might do the trick..?0 -
Adaptor posted in my link above. {http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29191}
L only would be mono.
As for software that will convert - no idea what a .ts file is, so can't help with that. Perhaps one of the seasoned windows pro's will be able to help?0 -

Mr Oink, thankyou very much for that post. I brought the very adaptor you recommended and it works a treat.
Many Thanks..:D0 -
you may as well get yourself a USB capture device like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EasyCAP-Audio-Video-Capture-Adapter/dp/B001BWU8US
As for the associated Ulead software - it's incompatible with Windows 7, doesn't work on XP netbooks as you can't get the screen resolution high enough and the XP desktop I tried it on is currently getting rebuilt after a little accident when plugging things in & out.
It also doesn't do too well with Moviemaker as 2.9 (Vista, Win 7) doesn't recognise the capture device and 2.1 (XP) does see it, does produce a file but then locks up when it converts it to .avi
So can anyone can suggest another piece of capture software :mad:0
