Hi all
Has anybody heard anything about voluntary redundancies in the Civil Service?
Just wondering, as i'm pretty sure there's no way they can get rid of the numbers they want to through natural wastage

I've heard a few rumours floating about that 15 months salary will be offered as a redundancy package.
I can't see many people jumping ship for that!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

Can't see it happening to a large scale. Natural wastage should cover reductions in most places.
SSA, for example, needs a 'headcount reduction' of about 300 people. Just under this amount left of their own accord last year. With the equal pay settlement among the lower grades a lot of people have been requesting career breaks etc. If they leave there is no prospect of returning in the short term.0 -
I do know that UK Civil Service are currently considering voluntary redunacies. The closing date was August 6th and there are numerous conditions. For those people who apply and are lucky to "Get Out" last day of service will be Oct 22nd. Currently they are trying to push a Bill through Parliament that from October they will only have to pay 15 months salary, hence the reason for date of October 22nd as last day of work.0

Why can't it happen on a larger scale, beyond 'natural wastage'?! We have a larger public sector than almost anywhere else in the UK - do you honestly believe that NI is somehow requiring a significantly larger public sector!?
I know a few public figures who think that there is massive scope for savings. Be wary when you hear a politician discussing this in public - they have a significant interest in not peeing off the largest single force in the voting population.Always overestimating...0 -
The only way to achieve meaningful staff reductions in the NI Civil Service is to reduce the number of departments. That's where the real waste and duplication exists. 12 is nonsense.
Which of our Executive ministers is going to vote this one through? :rotfl:0 -

Not going to happen, the cost would be unpalatable, in particular if the government doesn't manage to force through the new rulings. Some of the figures bandied around under existing compensation measures are ridiculous.
An SEO grade (pretty low down the food chain) being paid in the region of 200k plus a pension.0 -

I'm stuggling to see why OFMDFM is such a big department (In relative terms) in particular.
Its how they do it that concerns me - it is usually the most experienced staff that choose to leave when the call comes - leaving inexperienced staff behind.0 -
