In the dept I work in , some of the most useless people are managers or senior managers. In the event of a cull what usually happens is the people at the bottom get shafted while the ones at the top look after themselves.0 -

I know the older workers are more likely, but by no means certain, to be at the top of the pay scale, but often they have the experience and work ethic that some of the younger workers lack.
Oh well.0 -
I had a look at the email this morning -
if you are aged 55 or over with at least 25 years qualifying
service (added years count for this purpose) you may apply to retire.
‘AER’ – Approved Early retirement
Last day of service to be 31 Oct (because the proposed legislation changes in pension & compensation scheme arrangements in Oct.
Also - only on offer to the DOE apparently.0 -
Is it all staff in DOE who fulfill the age and service criteria or is it a particular grade - Planners possibly as they're currently overstaffed? If it's General Service grades I thought they had to offer it to all departments but I may be wrong on that.0

All grades as far as I know; there didn't seem to any qualifier other than those posted.0 -

Whilst what you say is likely true I should make note. I have heard many comments about the boss being useless because the boss is forever having to ask for someone to do the simple jobs for them. Of course such comments have a good chance of demonstrating that the person making it is an idiot. It is THEIR job to do the little jobs and the boss should not necessarily be as familiar with them. The boss often has other responsibilities which he/she will have no reason to disclose to lower level staff.
What I am saying is that there are a lot of comments about managers being useless. Unless the 'non-managers' are somewhat more wise than what they say about the managers... chances are they often have no idea what they are talking about.Always overestimating...0
