wont solve your problems, but will improve load speed etc... just some suggestions:
downloading and installing ccleaner will let you clean up your registry, and easily manage your startup programs - of which you can disable: igfxtray, hotkeyscmds, persistence, Adobe Reader Speed Launcher, QuickTime Task, Google anything (personally i'd uninstall the google stuff, completely innecessary as windows does these jobs already!), SunJavaUpdateSched, Sidebar (unless you REALLY love it!), EHtray (unless you use media centre), swg, windows welcome centre, ... I could prob go on but wont.

keep running MBAM I suggest! still sounds virus related. and make sure you update MBAM first.

Having fixed a few vista laptops recently have come across a lot of manufacturers releasing vista laptops which aren't really powerful enough to run it effectively. What is the make/model of laptop? How much RAM do you have? Processor speed?
