I didn't know they made a Countdown board game!! Think we're going to give that one a go, and it seems they still make it so we can get it new :D Rummikub seems to have gone down well with you lot, so I think we'll go for that too!

I'm also going to get DH to show me how to play chess, it's something I've wanted to do for ages but haven't ever got round to, this thread has inspired me!!

Cranium is great fun I agree but not so much just for the 2 of us. My friend brought Dirty Minds camping once and it was hilarious - canvas is not at all soundproof so goodness knows what the neighbours thought :rotfl:

    Thanks everyone for your help!!

We used to play lots of board games the ones that stick in my mind are

Payday, you go round the board with your budget and try to last the month without getting car bills! Very MSE.

Wideworld, I think it was called, where you had metal planes and cards for various destinations to get to around the board. To make it interesting there was a plastic sheet that was over the board and if the wind changed and you were on it it swept you away. (I'm explaining this very badly but it is much better that I describe!)

Mine a million. This can go on but we enjoyed it.

Game of Life, Guess Who played with silly questions ('Does he look like a serial killer' etc)

My mum used to keep me and my sister quiet with the Mille Bornes card game.

And just remembered this from my school days http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spit_%28card_game%29 (known as slam to us)
  • Ingenious - Its a strategy game that only takes about 15 mins a game. My OH loves scrabble and loves this too.

Another vote for backgammon! Nothing like an afternoon in a bar with wine and backgammon

Yahtzee is a good game - you dont have to be great at maths and kids love it too. Doesnt take too long either and you can play with two players. You can also buy a travel version.

We had loads of board games when we were kids and I have recently found loads of them again. I had Hotel and Escape from Atlantis. I think Hotel was my favourite game when I was younger. One game that my friends introduced us to was Personal Preference. One person gets four cards and the others have to try and guess what order preference the person with the cards wil put them in. Very funny game and you learn a lot about each other. Me and my husband have played this game loads with friends of ours and my husband doesn't have a clue still about me and what I prefer!!
