Although I acknoledge some of the comments made in reaction to this post, I think it was a good attempt from nuno and I thank him for making the effort.

I do also have to mirror some of the previous comments made. To someone who is not entirely tech savvy, maybe is on their new first ever computer and knows of MSE, this list will seem daunting and some may try to download and install all of it. I am sure that the vast majority of us are well aware of what a bad idea it is to install multiple firewall and anti-virus programs.....

However, it is not all bad. We can take this list and discuss what should stay, what maybe should be taken off and whether some parts of the list have a place on what could be a well used sticky.

For Example:
I notice 4 image viewers on there however, when Windows provides probably all that most users will require of an image viewer.

I think it is a very brave thread starter however and I hope that those on the forum can provide input to make it better.

Edit: I would remove links to programs like Kazaa though in light of what it is usually used for.
