On the subject of flavours, another game we used to play to avert travel sickness was to give everyone one of those slightly fizzy Refreshers sweets, and see how long you could keep it in your mouth without it breaking up.

do you think he would possibly nibble on this
My mum is really bad as a passenger in a car and nibbles on ginger and it works for her.

Mythbusters also found ginger to work.

I would try him in the front of the car, and i think he will be ok.

Motorways really are bare from features, tree's etc. So a view from the back seat of the car can be something of just lamp posts, and even worse if its night time as its just the lights.

Elevating him, or bringing him to the front will bring his view up and you could point things out to him on the journey, explain what signs are, and what road markings mean etc now and then to keep him yapping away & looking around.

As a child I was dreadfully travel sick- couldn't go even a couple of miles in a car. I was given barley sugar to suck-yuck- can't abide the things ever again. Even now I can not travel in the back of a car but I drive all the time (such as 450 miles to Ireland!) and never feel ill. Once I learnt to drive the problem stopped- perhaps that is something to do with concentration and facing forwards? Can you still get the pretend steering wheels?
I am a fair weather sailor! and have discovered the acupressure bands work for me- the next cruise I go on I will have crystallized ginger, ginger biscuits, pressure bands and stugeron!! Peppermints are good too.Travel sickness is foul for everyone.......
    Lots of luck

Ok, I'm going to sound like a right loon now, but I find that the vibrations from resting my head against the window/door of the car with my eyes closed stopped me feeling travel sick.

Just to add that half a value nappy in the bottom of your plastic bag in a throw away box - tupperware  - helps to absorb and then you can just throw the bag away at the service station and put the next bag and cut up nappy in for the next leg. . . .

    I've been Money Tipped!
I use phenergans for my ds (10) for flying as he just spews everywhere. You have to remember to dose him the night before but if it's long haul then he has a dose just before we fly as well so he can sleep. I think I had to get it from Chemist Direct as Boots refuse to sell it now

Bands make him feel sick strangely enough and nowadays he waits till he steps out of the car to puke - usually over his shoes!!

Before putting the little one in the front just check what the latest info is for them going in the front with airbags.
I read it some time ago and my kids have their own children now so I didn't take all of the info in.
But I am sure there will be others that know the full info about it.

Travelling tomorrow to Gatwick to the airport. Now realised that despite all of this great advice I didn't get round to buying anything! Will get him to go to sleep on the way so hopefully should be OK and then can pick something else at the airport. Might give the bands a try....
