blue dimond guppy is the fellow you describe covlass.
naturally blue/green to yellow tinges around head and body.
with the frozen foods i defrost it in a small cup of warm water and then strain the water out, (mainly because i dont know what it was frozen with) then i equally distrbute it allong the surface so all can get some. one will be fine for six of them, and hoover the rest up off substrate when theyre finished.
another cheap food is to buy shelled prawns from local supermarket. defrost and cut to size that they can eat food for a treat once in a while.
i have green spotted puffers now so have altered my water to brackish, arent the cute! but aggressive!! have three of them in my large tank and the rest of my tropical have been moved to another tank.
my swordtail gave birth yesterday to about 40-60 fry yesterday and looked like the female was about to die so i put her in my brackish (for a salt bath) tank for a few hours, she perked right up and is now at full health.
Thats the fella a little more silver around body though
Your puffer is soooo cute looks like he has a little smile lol" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"

with platies they tend to give birth every 30-40 days, hold sperm for a long period so if you separated male from female she would give birth again and again till she used up her store of sperm. so chances are once she gave birth by the next day she is pregnant again.

How many do they usual give birth too ??
Wow you really wouldnt want to be a fish would you - pregnant straight after giving birth
Havent managed to get to the fish shop yet - will probably go this afternoon. I have seen you can buy hatcherys on ebay for about £4 so my plan is if the fish shop sell them for just as cheap - great will buy one and try and keep these two babies. If there very much more expensive i will let nature take its course with these fish but maybe invest in a hatchery from ebay for future babies.
Thanks for all you help0 -

they can have anywhere between 15-40 plus babies:eek:, and eat their own young, thus why a hatchery or seperate breeding tank is needed to catch all of em for breeders, i got loads of swordtail fry:eek:.
if you keep the baby's and they breed with mum, chances are that after mum has used her sprem stores the new brood will have defects as a result of inbreeding.
i had females from one LFS and males from another but its evedent to me that they are of same batch some of my fry were born with cruel defects, some have no eyes some have one eye and some are fine. the defective ones i rightly or wrongly feed my puffers with. this is the first batch of defective fry ive had. i have moved my males, and my females are going to a LFS that hasnt got the same supplier to break the inbreeding. i have a understanding with a different LFS to take my fry to. both LFS are miles and miles appart so will minimize that risk of inbreeding again.0 -

How on earth do you do that? The mind boggles
you have to have nervs of stealfirst catch in a net and wait few mins, then place in a bowl with tank water in and clove oil or koi sedative like lincs fish health sleepex sedative or masuizai sedative, to prevent stress on the puffer and him puffing up.
once sedated place in net and hold him her gently with head up out of net, then gently prise open mouth and place somthing that hold it open i used a peice of air line steralized as they only babies, then clipped excess teeth growth. put in a seprate bowl from the first bowl without sedative with tank water, let him come round a bit then gently placed in net and placed in tank. puffers can survive out of water for a moment or two while you clip teeth or a vet can do it iof theyve done it before if not then they will research it and ask you to come back..0 -
Could I just ask how ofter should I give the frozen food i was told twice a week
A couple of times a week is fine. I have a tupperware tub that I put it in and add some tank water, then leave till it comes up to room temp.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Hi All,
OH and i bought our first tank todayive been in a house with tropicals before but we are both very much novices.
We have a 60 litre marina which is currently giving off a lovely hum with the pump going while we get it slowly up to temperature.
Just spent the last hour planning our species and thinks we are nearly there with that, just got to work out the biggest sizes and which to get first.
Hope you dont mind if i pop in with random questions
