    Hiya

I don't know anything about that filter or how to get it going sorry.

for a 72L goldfish tank I'd recommend this filter http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1304&pf_id=51059

It's really good and easy to maintain and is halfprice at Pet Planet at the mo - may be cheaper elsewhere too.

If you do change filters you will need to transfer the media across or keep both going until the new filter is seeded to avoid starting from scratch again.

Ahh right, have looked at those ones before and looks good.

So I would need to have both in the tank going for a bit to make sure all is well? How long would I need to do this for do you think?

Its obviously still drawing in water but it was bubbling nicely and now there is only a very small stream of bubbles, which are hard to see and only pop out intermittently.

I am not really sure what type of filter you mean.

If it is run by a powerhead (electric motor) and blows bubbles by a venturi, this usually means a tube which goes up into the air and draws water in and maybe it's got blocked?

Have you tried taking it apart and checking the impeller and generally checking for gunge etc?

If you do try that, maybe you can find out what make and model it is too, it may have a label on it?

If you get a new one you'd want to run them both for about 3 weeks I should think, if you cannot transfer the media.

    How old is the filter?

I'm not sure to be honest, I received all the bits from freecycyle. It looks fairly clean but I'd say a few years. Its a bio one but also normally blows bubbles out. Sorry if I sound a bit dim but thanks for any help.

Didn't have time this morning but will have a good look at it and see if its blocked later on

If you look on my other thread here you can see the filter on the pics, blowing bubbles merrily lol!
  • TBH i havent seen a pump like that since i was a kiddie and im 26! if it stopped blowing bubbles out of it doesnt mean its not working the head may be gunked up, does water flow from it can you feel force whilst covering the outlet tube? if so it is operational and filtering wich is the main. a fluval u3 is more than capiable of filtering the tank of that copacity, to have both running is not needed, when you take out the old filter open it up and grab the filter media pads look up in the u3 handbook wich chamber is for beneficial bacteria, cut a section of the old media and place it in with the beneficial media in the u3, itll take two weeks to fully cycle that filter, during that 2 weeks do small but often water changes.
  • Hello, I'm a bit new to keeping fish but have been given a cold water tank; froglet has been very helpful so far on my other thread.

Anyway, the filter with the tank is no longer blowing bubbles out visibly and I can't seem to get it going. Fairly sure its this one here or very similar.

Fish seem ok, no gasping or swimming up top to get some air.

Any tips for getting it going or recommendations for an internal filter? Tank is 72l.

Please excuse me, very new at largish tanks :o

i think ive sourced your filter make. resun BF80 internal powerflo pump.

The fluval you say you purchased in your other thread is an excellent choice. I always give it at least a month before moving the first filter out of my tank, to make sure the new one is going to be as effective as possible when the old one is gone.

Keep a close eye on the ammonia reading for the first couple of weeks when you move the old one out too, just in case.

I find it a really quiet filter too.

That's great! I wouldn't have had the skills to breed fish if it hadn't been for Practical Fishkeeping, especially the forum. It's good to share info with other people.
