Life after the pill

I've felt better today. Cramps have settled down to bearable levels but the bleeding hasn't started yet.
Feel great at the moment, as husband just bought me a huge bar of Fruit and Nut at the shop, and I've just scoffed the lot
Here I go again on my own....0 -
Last year OH had a vasectomy so I could come off the pill (no more kids required;) ) my periods are fine about 3 days long ,cannot use tampons for the 1st day of period and the pain is horrendous.
I went to see the nurse and she suggested a smear (was due one anyway) it all came back negative and she said maybe I should go back on the pill!
I now take Ibruprofen extra strength 400mg which are the only things that take the edge off the pain which I can only describe as similar to a contraction when in labour:eek:
Have tried starflower/evening primrose etc and didn't have any effect on me
Anyone finds a miracle cure/pill please let me knowJo x:A0 -

I've got IBS, and that is worse around peroid time though. I wondered if the hormones had an effect on my bowel
I don't know about the IBS but i get IBS as part of the fibro, i would mention it to your doc though when you next go.0 -
Undoubtedly they do. I virtually always suffer from an upset tummy around the time of my period pains, and I have heard of others who become constipated. And don't even talk to me about the wind ... :eek:Becles wrote:I've got IBS, and that is worse around peroid time though. I wondered if the hormones had an effect on my bowel

I've phoned the docs, and got an appointment with the nice male doctor on Thursday morning. Quite surprised, as you normally have to wait at least a week to see anyone at our docs! Here I go again on my own....0

Saw doctor and he was lovely and sympathtic.
He said the period problems are normal and it can take a while for some womens bodys to settle down to normal. I haven't got the symptoms for infection or anything untoward, so he suggested seeing how I go over the next few months.
He said they can't refer me to the infertility specialist at the hospital until we've been trying for a year, so he said just keep trying and go back to see him as a couple after 12 months if nothing has happened.
Period is due today, but hasn't arrived yet. Not getting my hopes up just in case, but will do a test in a few days if it hasn't arrived. Here I go again on my own....0 -
If you get really bad cramps, I found the only way to take the edge off was 800mg ibuprofen and some mefenamic acid (marketed as Ponstan/Ponstel; only available on prescription). Sometimes even that wouldn't work for me, but the mefenamic acid kept me from suicide over the years - if I hadn't been able to have that I simply wouldn't have wanted to live. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

I used to get very bad cramps until I'd had children and they stopped. A hot water bottle on the area used to help me a lot.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I can't imagine myself with a hot bottle in the office!
But I'll try that at home next time, should help a little, thank you.
My doctor prescribed mefenamic acid on Monday. He says it's great. Let's see...'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0
