Have you been to the doctors, surely it shouldn't be this bad.

Not yet, but I need to make an appointment about my infertility - see other thread for details! I will mention the period problems when I see the GP about that.

Thanks everyone apart from the smug gloat  It's reassuring to know others have been through similar issues, and I'm not alone!
Here I go again on my own....
  • I came off in February and have had four periods since then. Very heavy and painful as usual, no difference there, lol. Only difference is I feel much healthier. :)

I cme off the pill a couple of years ago, then about a week later decided that when my period started I would go back on it (changed our minds about wanting another baby), but it didn't come, BabyH did instead. After he was born MrH went and had the snip.

Have to say that i don't get nearly as much PMS or headaches as when I was on it, and although my periods are not as regular, I am a lot ha[pier not taking it.

I came off around Christmas last year and slipped into what seemed to be a regular cycle right away, but then 5-6 months later it wibbled a bit, but has now recovered again. I get much more painful and heavy periods now, and my skin looks like bacteria have been engaged in mortal combat for a week every month, but I feel like me again and I'm not such a b*tch to OH. Your pain doesn't sound right, Becles, I would agree that the doc should be seen. Good luck.

It's been about 6 years when I was last on the Pill, but the first and greatest noticeable effect was that my sense of smell came back with a vengeance. I nearly threw up on a train because a woman in the carriage was eating cream cheese and chive crisps and I couldn't work out what the stink was.

My pain level stayed the same - the Pill never helped with that anyway, so the agony levels were constant. My cycle became very erratic - anything from 26 to 80 days - and stayed that way until I had my hysterectomy this year. Mittelschmerz was a new one on me - I'd been on the Pill since I was 17 so wasn't used to my body ovulating.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • I was on the pill from 16 - 26 and when I came off it I was all over the place. It took months for it to get back to normal and during that time I suffered horrendous period pains, sickness and PMT but this is very normal for me if I don't use any hormonal contraception. I suffered exactly the same symptoms if I carried my pill through 2 months and didn't have a period. It was almost like I was catching up lol

I'd definitely mention it to the doctor, but I think you'll find its fairly normal to be a little eratic for a while Becles.
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

    Funny you should mention that.

Hubby went to the party on Friday evening, and I said I would pick him up so he could have a drink.

When I arrived, there was the usual smell of drink and sweaty dancing bodies and it made me feel really nauseous. I did wonder why as it's never bothered me before, but just put it down to feeling generally unwell.

  • I've been on and off the pill for the last 20 years and have recently been having bad migranes and I wonder if it's the pill that's been causing it. Trying to talk my DH into having the snip but he really doesn't want to. My period with the pill lasts about 5 days and is really heavy for 2, can't remember what it was like before the pill though I must admit I like having the bonus of knowing when my period is coming with taking the pill but I really don't want to stay on it for much longer.
  • I came off the pill last November and for the first few months suffered the same, cramps, poor skin etc.. I started taking evening primrose oil a couple of months ago and for me the difference has been remarkable. My temper is loads better and so is my skin, and I hardly notice the cramps now.

You don't have any disabilities do you? I have fibromyalgia and heavy and painful periods go hand in hand with it, which is the way I am. Just a thought :) When i was approx 14 i used to have allot of pain and i used to vomit with it all cleared up after i had my son but came back after the car accident triggered off the fibro.
